Need help badly
I had a Stillen CAI installed about 6 months ago. The air filters are behind the front bumper. The whole front end needs to come off, freaking great. I need the instructions on how to pull the front end off so I can get to the airfilters. Would be great if someone could e-mail it in PDF format. This is going to be a pain in the *** twice a year. If I could send a cold beer to you I would, much appreciation.

Why do you need to remove the bumper for the CAI? |
Because the aftermarket CAI filters run in between the headlights right behind the front bumper. The only way to get to it is to take off the skid plate and remove the front bumper. If I'd know this I wouldnt have bought it.

Removing the bumper is a small price to pay for what most people say is the best CAI on the market for the 370. Its seems like it would be hard to do but its real easy.

Wow. Read the DIY. That's simple as hell.

Well the filters dont have to come off twice a year. They have to come off when they get dirty, which I think is every 20 30,000 miles. So someone like me it would take me years before I had to clean them. As for the warranty, If you some how suck water or a rock into the engine because you didnt install them properly then yea it will void your warranty. But if you install them and a month later you blow your rear they wont void your warranty. The failure has to be becasue of the part you installed. |
I've had mine on over a year and over 20K. Just checked them and they are still a long way from needing cleaning.
No warranty issues. |
Thanks for helping out Dreamer

What is a DIY and if someone has the info for removing the front end in PDF please e-mail it to me. Taking the front end off isnt easy. So far I have the skid plate off, both front wheel well covers removed and and the plastic snap pins from top side of front bumper and I'm still looking for bolts to unscrew.

Did you remove the bolt in the wheel well behing the liner? it looks silverish once removed you can pull the edge of the bumper towards you to release it from the clips that temp guide it into place. place masking tape on the fender line near the edge of the bumper so you don't aciddentaly scratch the fender removing it and reinstalling it. |
you can do a visual check by removing the radiator shroud (the black plastic just forward of the radiator). i'd just do that to check periodically. also check the torque on the hose clamp.

A CAI will change air-fuel ratio. This can change how warm/cool an engine runs. It adds more power. That means ANYTHING in the driveline that fails, can TECHNICALLY be traced to the CAI. Blew your rear end? Well that 20whp more may have done it. Care to prove otherwise? Can't. You lose. Of course, this also depends on not only Nissan corp. but your dealership and how far they are willing to stick their neck out for you. |
where do I find the DIY? Sorry the FNG is needing some help, lol
|
Comrad,
Click the link in the second post just below your initial question. You'll go right to the DIY. Removing the bumper isn't tough...you'll see. The only 'tricky' part is getting to each of the screws behind the wheel liners. Once everything is unscrewed, you just give a little tug by each headlight and you're home free. It helps to have a second person when you put it back on. |
Found it, thanks.

dude if you need help, drive down to lawton and i'll do it for you.

But as we all know a CAI alone on the 370 will not affect the AFR enough to cause any damage to the engine. This is why cars are so advanced today. They have these things called "computers" ever hear of them? They make lots of little magical adjustments to protect the engine from improper AFR. As for the added HP breaking something in the drivetrain it would be very hard fro Nissan or any other Car Company to (A) Prove the part you installed even added power. And (B) Figure out a way that the extra power directly caused the faliure. Dont get me wrong there gonna BS there way out of paying for the damage but you will win if you fight them especially if its something like a blown rear, engine, etc. |
