Nicer ride, meaning more comfortable? Less noise? I thought the cayman s was very loud w the engine behind you

This is one reason I went 370. I wanted a cost effective car that could come close to a CS in performance and driving experience. If my old RX8 had 50 more horses and 20 more pound feet of torque, I would have kept it. The Z was the perfect fit for me. Now, I can keep the wife's CX7, the Z, and get that 3 row SUV we need.

The 370Z does so many things that the Cayman does that it's hard not to choose the Z, I would imagine, unless you hate nissan, or love porsche, or are all about a name. I am sure there are many intangibles, but the Z's I drove felt great to me. Of course, this is coming from an old Trans Am with a ton of issues. Still, Porsche needs to up the game with their DI 6-banger in that car. There is a ton of technology in that engine for the power it's producing.

:iagree: I just refinanced my loan to take advantage of lower rates, and my '09 base with sport came in at $30,800 retail. Now you won't get that in trade, but I think $22.5 is a little too low.

In all honesty and full disclosure, I paid $29K, cash, before taxes. The car is just a base with aero-package ($600.00) The only thing that the car needs at the present time would be new tires. I figured that if I get $23K (+ $1,000 in tires), my actual trade in is $24K.

Might be bad mathematics as I am excluding taxes, but I figure that my actual selling price is $25,000.00 (self-justification :roflpuke2:)

Yea, the good news is the cars are holding their own so far as used book values go, but the reality is if you negotiate well, you can get a new one for the same price as retail used. If you are happy with the deal I'd go for it. You could always ask for a little more and back down if they won't budge.

Oh, and I happen to love the Caymen S. A good friend of mine had one, before the recession caused a downturn in his business. They are great cars. I think the 370 is a better bang for the buck, and he agreed as well. I think the way to go is a mint low mileage used Caymen S, let someone else take the depreciation and get a good deal.

I got about $24k for my Z on trade. It had it nearly two years. Sport/Touring 16k miles. It was a little low, but we're just starting winter, the economy is still in the shitt*r so I really didn't think I'd be able to get a whole lot more private party, if it sold at all. I looked at all of the closed out E-bay auctions and there were very few selling anywhere for over $26k.

Every comparo I've read puts the Cayman ahead of the Z, even if their numbers on paper are nearly identical. Let us know what happens.

Based on the time of year and the market I think it's fair. So here is the current list of closed auctions. 28 closed auctions, TWO sold. One just like mine at $24,786 and a NISMO for $29,999. Some dumbfukker has a 2009 listed at $39K! :roflpuke2:

I have never seen an S for $40k. non-s are in the high 30s. Maybe end of 2011, the first gen S could hit high 30s or low 40s.

I didn't think it was that loud, but I was working pretty hard and pretty excited as well. By nicer ride, I mean a supple, planted, sticky feeling; great handling/cornering but not at all jarring. However, I cannot remember if it had more, less or the same amount of body roll as our car. But most people who get into cars are going to make mods in the area of suspension, bars, etc., anyway. :driving:

Exactly. And I, also, loved my RX-8 and wished for the extra power.

One thing that I never see discussed in the forums that extends this conversation about relative value and what we can afford: If I were driving a nice Cayman S, I would probably hesitate to track it much, worrying that a hairy accident would damage a big investment. And I know I would be obsessing more in parking lots and stuff.

Don't get me wrong: I would still love to have that car. But we got such a great deal. Who else makes a car like this at this price? No one. :driving:
