Well, or they decided that if they park next to you, they have you, and a possible unknown to worry about on their other side.

If they park next to the island, they don't have you, just the unknown, which couldn't be avoided anyways.

I think their motive was more selfish than altruistic/polite. Of course, this flies in the face of my earlier assessment. :stirthepot:

This annoys me so so so bad, I answer one of two ways a)if im in a decent mood then I give them the price range for Z models 30-45K depending on the package b)I just say I found it in a cereal box, better start eating coco puffs.

I know option b) is a douche answer, but I feel like its a douche answer for a douche question.

I also agree with some of the other statements made about it seeming like you cant own something nice now days. I almost dislike owning nice vehicles because of how much flack I catch for owning them. I swear just because I'm younger people cant catch the whole concept of a LOAN, from a BANK. ugh. rant off.

well, sometimes people ask in a polite way and i'll just say how much i paid for it. i mean, its not a secret. If someone says 'hey, if you don't mind how much did that cost you' i'll just tell them. its not like they can't go on the internet and look. yea they won't know what i paid exactly, but them asking what it costs isn't really that violating. however, asking what you do for a living etc is kind of an invasion of privacy and i'd probably just make a joke or something b/c its none of their business.

spearfish25 12-13-2010 11:20 AM

Jeff, what do you do for a living?

Unless you're a professional, stick with the basics.
The fact that Chris Rock can shout "Whazzup my niggaz!?!?" and get a favourable response does not mean I will experience similar results.

You would have been better off with a simple "Godzilla owns" comment verses a your original comment which could be taken as a "snide remark".

I feel what your saying for sure, I dont get lippy if they ask in the manner you have stated. Although I still dont feel as though it is something that should be asked when, like you stated, they can go on the internet and find out what one costs. I live in a small town and everyone knows what I do for a living so that is no secret, I guess in my scenario its a different situation than for you. You probably live in a big city and when someone asks you how much your car cost its in the way you stated. In the small town where I live its because the person asking is being nosey as hell and its very annoying.

When i'm driving a GT-R (company car) I always make a point to wave to my 350 and 370Z brethren. Driving one is constant hilarity though. It's funny what people will go through to take a picture of a car. It's not like it's a Enzo or something! I get some people that will park next to it to take pictures and stuff, I get a kick out of it. I can't say that i've had many haters say anything to me, most are enamored by being around one. I do get the questions about how much it costs and stuff, and i'm honest about it. I let people sit in it and play with the buttons and touchscreen gauges. I know 10 years ago i'd never thought I would be driving one and I would have loved the opportunity to sit in a car like this and play with the buttons, so I don't mind for people to do the same. I just don't give rides in it.

All through school I caught flack from students, instructors, etc. for owning a Trans Am. The darn thing was 9 years old, was worth less than their civic, and yet they were bent on assuming I had money or something. It really possed me off and I know exactly what you mean. That is part of why I ended up getting a G20. Noone is ever going to talk smack about "how much I must make" to afford that. It's way nicer inside than the WS6 ever dreamed of being, and it doesn't have to perform well. It's a daily.

Lots of people have weak google-fu. They just want a quick answer. Society ties value to MSRP. They want to know how impressed they should be, basically. Or, if they know what you do and make the same, they might be gauging whether or not they can make the move to what you are driving. We ask a lot of stuff like that at work when we see someone in something we like. We give our co-workers first shot at our cars when we sell them, etc. No nastiness is tied to the "How much did it set you back" question/answer.
