I was watching the Mecham Auto Auction and saw old Corvettes and and 60's muscle cars at the auction. The prices for some of these cars in mint condition were crazy. A 1969 Camero went for over 30K.

Here is my question... What do you think the value of a 09/10 370Z will be in say 20 to 30 years? I am talking about a 370Z with limited modification,lower miles and in great condition.

Thats a hard question. Any car 20 years old and in prime condition will definitely fetch a nice price.

Probably $6,000 like my 20 year old 300zx.

So you figure the Camaro was about $10K in 1969 and it sold for three times that. You could make a case for the Z being worth $90k. But remember you have inflation and everything else over the next 40 years. A dollar may not even buy you a bic pen in 50 years.

Fully restored a 20 year old 300zx would probably fetch a much better price.

It all depends on what the market looks like. There really isn't a big demand for Z cars so the used prices way down the road aren't going to be that impressive.

Also, the prices for these American 'classics' have been overly inflated by baby boomers who grew up during that time period and now can afford that car and do almost anything for a mint condition model.
It is a bit sad and sucks for others who just want to enjoy the car and now the prices have jumped by this demand. On the point of the Z, it never really has stood the test of time, even the 240z in mint condition is very cheap to pick up.

One thing that could help the FV of the Z is government regulations. 20 years from now if everything is slow hybrid crap then there could be a big demand for old school performance cars (if we have enough gasoline infrastructure to support it).

probably do better with a nismo. normal/base z's will be considered more of just another old car, i thinks.

Well, over the last two or so years the Z has been out on the market, resale prices even on early 2009 models are still in the mid 20s which is pretty good. I think the 370z will have less of a chance at developing a cult like following like other Japanese classics such as the Supra, 300zx, and NSX. However, if reliability proves to be great then it could hold higher resale than average just due to time proven quality.

Mods will kill the resale value and demand faster than anything. Keep your stock parts. ;)

That is the reason why I asked. I am 36 have very limited mods and maybe will put 2500 miles on my Z and keep in spotless. (Not my daily driver) It would be kind of cool to see the Z rolling on their red carpet in 20 years in an auction and getting 60K plus. As for the older Z's, and I had a 300ZX back in the day. I feel the quality now and the lines of the car will make it a classic. Wont ever be a Vette, GTO or Camero from the 60's but I think there will be a high demand for a clean low mileage 370Z.

Lets face it, a Z owner can sometimes be the Z's worst enemy. I see so many tore up, with shopping carts for spoilers being driven by idiots. So far I have not seen that yet with the 370. Makes me proud to own one so far.

The old classic american cars are going for crazy prices becuase that is that the people taht can afford to pay them went to high school in. They weren't appreciated in their own time. Before the muscle car craze the 55-57 chevy belair was rediculious becasue that is what the generation before drove to school. before that the t bucket roadster and model T.First gen Camaros are high because their aren't many left. Many of them got gutted and totaled on the circle track. My money is the Honda Civic and 240sx will fetch more money if they are in good shape in another 20-30 years. The cars that are fill the high school parking lots now are what will be valuable in the future. Everybody wants their youth back.

hard to say what it might bring at an auction,which is very different than
wholesale or retail 20 years from now. if someone is there and wont's it bad enough they may pay through the nose......

but the z will never be compared to the camro's mustangs and vettes
because it's not considered good old american muscle

Like other 20 year old Japanese sports cars, its value will probably be slightly more than its weight in scrap metal (exception: Supra, and possibly AE-86).

Now if you have one in near mint condition in 40 years from now, probably quite a bit to a collector of rare fossil fuel cars :icon17:

Well if you don't drive it very much and keep everything original with all the paperwork and keep it mint it certainly will be worth a pretty penny but more towards an enthusiast. If you put it in the thrifty nickel not as much. And it would definitely be worth more if it was a Nismo. They are limited production cars, more exclusivity. I saw a 240z mint go for $25k on Barrett Jackson forget what year. It had low miles and was in original condition. I think it depends on demand. Like the guy said above some of the classic american cars fetch a penny because of the baby boomers who think about the times past. And back then they didn't have as many choices like we do these days. It was pretty much american cars only back then. I saw a trans am in mint condition sell for $13k. I have a friend who has a 74 challenger in good condition but its not completely original. It's not worth crap. Well maybe $10k or so. He would have to completely restore it like new to have it worth anything. But hey he luvs it. Remembers riding in it with his dad. Like everyone says it just depends on the trends, fads and what ppl are interested in. Oh and that challenger drives like crap in comparison to cars today.

And if you try to find a Supra or a RX-7 or a skyline they hold their value very well.

any japanese car thats old and is still expensive/valuable, is only valuable because of its performance and modding potential.

Saw a beautifully restored '72 240Z go across the Mecum block for $12K. Don't hold your breath on future value!

Not much. I saw a mint-condition Datsun 240 with low-ish miles (60K?) or so. It was a mid 70's model. They wanted $4900 for it. Asking price. It was at an in-door museum.

Cars are worth way less in the future in mint condition than they are in smiles at the present time properly driven and cared for.

Found a clean RX-7 turbo with a few mods for around 12K a few years back. Car was cherry. I wouldn't call that holding much value. Even NSX's are worth less now than they were when sold, and that's not even counting for inflation. Counting for inflation--fail.

basically, if old white men don't get some sense of nostalgia from overbidding on the car, it isn't really worth much
