2012 Nissan GT-R officially goes 0-60 in 2.9 seconds — Autoblog

I would never trade in my z for a gtr.

flashburn 12-02-2010 07:05 PM

I just want both, that's all. :)

Yeah. It has a similar cantilever roofline but the actually roof is not the same. :icon17:

Hey thanks mate. I don't think I'll mod this 370z as much as my old 350, but I do want to do the basics (exhaust, suspension, kit, wheels, turbos). I guess that's all the Nismo inclusions, but I want aftermarket. So I guess a non-nismo would be best suited for me.

Anyways good luck! Hope you and Juno enjoy the car!

hahaha thats what you think now =p, but i dunno a lot of the fully modded balls out cars i've seen start off as "basic" mods that just seem to add up and add up.

Z sits lower. GTR is higher.

:iagree: There have been a few times on the track when I've gone into a corner way too fast, expecting to end up in the grass (or a tire wall), but the GT-R just stuck. I'm going to be slow the first few times I go in the Z while I'm learning to trust myself in RWD again. And as much as I love the 6MT around town, I'm going to miss the DCT on the track. Until we bring the next one home, anyway...LOL

it took me a while to get used to the GTR on the track. At first I was tracking it based on my experience. It kept understeering no matter how I adjust my suspension. It really started to piss me off and I went faster, and faster, until a point where your mind logically thinks you're going TOO fast. That's when the GTR comes alive. You don't squeeze the throttle after the apex. You PUNCH IT. That's how it adjusts its balance. And it pulls it straight out of the corner faster than any other car out there.

/\ and I very much appreciate you not kissing the wall sweetie.

I really don't think folks who haven't driven a GTR on the track can really truely appreciate what the car is capable of. It's an amazing machine.

I was going to refrain from saying anything but....

You can definitely tell the guys who have owned or driven the cars they are talking about from those who haven't. I'm one who loves both GTR and 350z/370z for different reasons. My GT-R isn't really a daily driver because I spend most of my time travelling on trains and planes, but when I do drive it on the street I enjoy it and as an added bonus my daughter fits in the back seat!. Then when I drive it on the track I admit I enjoy it even more, but then that would probably be true of any car (especially a fast one). I grew up in the UK where most all cars are stick, so I know all about driving a manual(stick) and owned a TT Supra in the UK so know all about rear wheel drive. The GT-R gearbox is not your typical auto box and is really just the future. Finally for anyone who thinks the GT-R drives itself take a look at the following, sure the GT-R has great handling and is more forgiving than some cars but still fun in the hands of people who can drive

So, basically, for someone who is a bit nervous about getting all 4-tires spinning on their $90K investment, it looks boring as hell. I am not a pro driver, and I would not feel comfortable in some of the situations that driver puts the car in. I would get A LOT! more joy doing more than just turning the wheel, by driving something like a GT500 or a 'vette around VIR/the street. I'm not about having the quickest lap-time.

I am about having fun with my investment, because monetarily--cars are a fools purchase. It's all about fun, and if you're not having it, you wasted your money. It will never be worth what you payed ever again, the difference is made up in smiles. I couldn't get as many out of that car as I could another. It appears OP is in agreement as well.

I want a 500bhp car that is quick from a roll, can roast the tires if I want turning off ALL nannies (without voiding a warranty), and has 3 pedals.

All-out, the GT-R bested the Z06 by less than 3 seconds at VIR. There is no way that I could drive either car to that potential. I'd rather feel faster in the Z06 than be a tick faster in the GT-R. It's about fun for me. Maybe some of you make money off of your skills at the track, or have sponsors that must be kept happy. I don't.

Hello,

I've just contacted my dealership to find me a 370z (no Z's left on their lot) and I will trade in my GTR for it. I'm just debating between black and blue... unsure which color I like more.

The last time I remember REALLY enjoying driving, was when I was driving my stock block 350Z with an APS TT kit. Simple TT kit on a stock block conservatively tuned, nice suspension, simple bodykit, wheels and tires. Nice unique little pocket rocket. Since then, I've spent a lot of money and time and built up the Z into a complete daily drivable show car. Lots of fun, but sometime in the build, it became more hassle than actual, uninhibited FUN. Always had to keep an eye on the gauges, listening to sounds, refilling water/meth, worrying if I want to go for a long distance road trip, etc.

Therefore I went for the GTR. With the GTR, it's an AWD all-season car, to the full extent. Fast, unique, 4 seater, good sized trunk, dual-clutch tranny, easily tunable, etc. Makes sense right? I spent the last 2 1/2 years of my life with the daily driven GTR. Full exhaust, intake, HKS BOV's, Cobb custom tune, wheels, suspension, lip kit, etc. Nice and simple. Sounds amazing. Makes sense in every aspect to keep it. However, I overlooked the most basic and primal factor in driving......the "fun". Don't get me wrong, the GTR is extremely fun on the racetrack, blowing past 911 turbos, GT3's, Lambos, Ferraris, etc. But on the street where I spend 90% of my driving time? Not so much. Fully stable and full of traction, it is not "fun" until you pass 140mph in a high speed corner. Yes it goes from 0-60 in under 3 seconds, but that's as much fun as it gets on the street. For me at least.

Therefore I've decided to go back to basics. 370z, simple GTM 500whp kit, wheels, suspension, kit, some other aesthetics. Simple little pocket rocket where I can have fun at 40mph instead of having to push up to 150+mph to have fun.

Now...I've been researching on this forum over the past few days. Great site btw. Read some of the little problems with the 370z (overheating, etc). Other than that, has anyone here found anything really annoying with the 370z? Not something everyone would KNOW from a test drive...but actually living with the car, any EMOTIONAL disappointments? I'm not looking for the fastest car. I'm not looking for the rarest. I'm looking for something that is rewarding emotionally everytime I get into the driver seat.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Alex

Nitrouz,
Since you posted this, I can not believe what you have had to put up with here at the370z.com. I almost feel you need an apology for all the input you did not ask for while getting an ear full from ignorant folks who seem to know more than you, an owner and driver of a GTR. Yet I did not read anywhere that you asked for GTR criticism only 370 Z advice. Still you've received plenty of comments from those who don't own 370's either. It is hard to understand how anyone would argue with two and a half years of experience vs. something they read on the internet. It is truly laughable.

You have seemingly managed to figure out what your first mods will be somehow. Well done.

My advice as someone who needed a new engine* due to oil consumption, is that you make certain that the rings are seated before you destroy your power train warranty with the turbos. Then go for it.

Best of luck on your project, and wonderful to have you here with us.

* Nissan did replace and gave me an extended 5 year service contract to boot.

Thanks to that person who said there's a 40th anni Z in markham ontario. That's actually the last one. I'm paying extra to have it shipped to vancouver. Just signed the papers at the dealership. I'll have it in 2-3 weeks in trade of my GTR plus cash.
