Dude Corvettes get 30-35 mpg on the highway thanks to their tall gearing.

They don't do that bad around town, either.

Yeah, I probably understand highway driving if you keep it within the speed limit.

But around town in stop and go traffic is a different story, that would be if you are going to baby that V8.

Yeah, but that is if you are going to baby a V8 especially around town in stop and go traffic.

The LSx motors are pretty efficient. You can really get around town without ever jumping about 2k rpm and get pretty decent mileage.

:iagree: Those motors get great mileage for the power.

Well I wont see to much of the 2K rpm for the first month I think, except when the wife is in the car. By the way she is thinking of things to do so she can ride in it. She didnt do this with the Z.

Good luck with the vette! They just seem soooo wide to me. But the power...that part I understand!

What's funny is it's just an optical illusion. The C6 Corvette is 72.6" wide. The 370Z is 72.8" wide. The Vette is not very tall so it appears wider than it is.

ProfessorDave 11-28-2010 02:47 PM

You're not kidding, Steve! It is quite an illusion. I had no idea they were so similar in width.
edit: I'm also surprised to learn that the 370 is only about an inch wider than the 350. It looks much wider to me. I've got to get my eyes checked...

The wheelbase of the 370 is 4" shorter than the 350, so that probably contributes to the 350 appearing much narrower.

Thats why I say the vette is just as much a DD as the Z. Even more so to me as I think the vette has a smoother ride in all.

Educ8r 11-28-2010 04:59 PM

Same with my 5.0! I've had only one Corvette driver rev his engine, didn't bother me, I'm not a teenager nor do I have the mentality of one.

That's kindof funny. The 'vette looks "right" to me and the 370Z looks tall and skinny. The only way I look at them and appreciate them is from the side. From the front :roflpuke2: family car stance.

Damn you Steve! Just when I was getting over my obsession with vettes and "settling" for slapping a SC on the Z. When I get back in the country I'm going to have to drive one and see what's what. I wish the grand sport was cheaper...

ProfessorDave 11-29-2010 12:42 PM

Any pictures of this imaginary vette yet Steve?

AllForTheCash 11-29-2010 02:25 PM

Mid/high 40's isn't bad for what you're getting.

Come sep/aug they will be throwing the 2011s away to make room for the 2012s and you will be able to pick up a GS pretty cheap (around 9K off MSRP). I just couldnt wait till then but still got a great deal on a 2010 they wanted off their lot.

The vette is smooth and powerful. A tune, exhaust, and a port and polish and you have another 50+ hp and tq. Add a cam and you are at the Z06 power level.

ProfessorDave 11-29-2010 07:22 PM

Do they still make Crane Cams? Back in the day, that was THE cam to put in a V8 (although that day was a long time ago, when cars were pulled by horses and bathrooms resembled small sheds).

Havent seen that name in the forums but it seems like cams give some damn good hp gains but come with some surging at lower rpms.

My friend's LS2 with a cam/LT's/catback and a CAI made 415whp. He then changed intakes to an LSX and made 431. It was a 6-speed GTO, and at 1100rpm in 1st gear was free of cam-surge.

Right now, check out LG motorsports, TSP,
and KaTech.

Also, you can supercharge the car for around $6-8K including tune/install.

You sure picked the right car for speed. Also reliable forced-induction suppliers, etc. who don't have 100+ page threads bashing their underperforming product that still runs high 12's :roflpuke2:
