Import Tuner 370Z Tuning Article

Pretty happy with my Stillen cat back and high flow cats. This article just supports the fact that they're the best bang for the buck in terms of gains.

Let the discussion begin!

Very impressive

I had that very same setup but Cobb tuned, it was pretty damn quick, gotta admit, the Z definitely responds to NA mods for sure, while I cant say much for the supercharger from what i've read of it, they do make one effin' quality exhaust.

That' my 370z guys XD
It was an awesome experience and I love my Zoe!

I repped our 370z decal on the side too :P

Great find, thanks for posting the article!

I'm tempted to look into the tuning as my next mod.

Great article.

Good article!

Great article. Was surprising to see the intakes didn't net the gains that most claim. I've seen claims of +18 HP with the intakes.

atx370z 11-13-2010 04:53 PM

i have the same exact mods and am right at 300whp... ****!

It kind of pisses me off my numbers are so low. I want to get on another dyno and see if it's the same, because it's getting really old seeing handfuls of cars putting down 320+whp with the same mods.

They installed the intakes after the HFCs and CBE. So the respective gain would be less. It would be interesting if they took it apart, did the intakes first, and then installed the exhaust components.

Given that I have the exhaust and HFCs already, I'm reluctant to add the GenIIIs as I don't want to cut the bulkhead for installation. Do you guys think a tune would still net me some advantage without the intake? I'm thinking 'yes'.

That is a good article!

To be expected. Intakes have been proven before this article came out that if you already have exhaust mods you won't see much gains. Thats why some swear by just going with the K&N replacement filter for the stock air box; much cheaper, sleeper look, and about the same gains.

That dyno is pretty generous, both on the baseline and the net % gain.

I'd say a 10% -12% gain from those mods over baseline is more realistic. What did you baseline at?

Just the other day I pulled up to a redlight. Feeling pretty cocky, even though I drive a 4-banger.

I looked left, looked right.

No cops in sight. Noone else really. I felt like showing out.

Then, out of NOWHERE! A dyno rolls up next to me in the other lane. I rolled down my window..."ITS ON! What'cha got for me?!". I thought I had it. Then it said "Bitch, I'm a MUSTANG dyno!"

I hung my head and slowly pulled away from the light when it turned green. I knew I didn't stand a chance in a race with a mustang dyno. Those always humble you.

Well, if the above could have happened, dyno-numbers might matter :P

A dyno is a tuning tool, not a comparison tool.

spearfish25 11-14-2010 07:46 AM

^Uh, I don't get it. No one tried to race or beat a dyno in the article. They didn't even compare the gains and conjecture it would beat any other cars. They simply used the 'tuning tool' to show how the car changed with various mods. Certainly there is discussion to be had about dyno type, etc etc. But the main thing I gleaned from the article is the relative gain from the exhaust and cats alone is the biggest. This may still hold true if it was cats and intake, but we won't know until someone tries it.

You really take the hardline with your opinions on here.

You can't compare dyno numbers with others unless you both go to the exact same dyno, all dyno's are different, even ones of the same brand have different calibrations. Mustang dyno's in particular all give low numbers while dyno dynamics give rather generous ones.

I doubt the intakes would yield the same result, when dyno'd separately I think their peak gain was 9hp. Stillen's own test results were much higher but I don't know how they got those numbers.

Z eliminator 11-14-2010 12:25 PM

I put the intakes on first and gained 20 rwhp. When i put on the cats and exhaust it picked up 7 more rwhp. The pulley and headers added 5 rwhp. When i ajusted the fuel with my coob i picked up 9 rwhp,
Base line was 265. ( 7 at ) im now up to 308 SAE rwhp.
It depends what you put on first.
