If they're one here? Will see a thread eventually. Thats too bad, I hope everyone is ok.

PapoZalsa 11-11-2010 12:27 PM

Not my MB!

ThoriumHotdog 11-11-2010 12:33 PM

Sounds like another case of VDC Monkeys. I hope the driver was alright.

spearfish25 11-11-2010 12:49 PM

i just read in Automobile that the new Mercedes CLK55 AMG has lane departure assist that is so intrusive, it will steer you back into an obstacle that you're trying to veer away from. Merc says you have to use the turn signal to deactivate the system. Ridiculous! How's that for a VDC monkey?

That is why this car might be the last new car I buy in terms of safety intervention tools that will eventually creep into all cars. All this technology basically aiming to pick up the slack for the lazy/unsafe/unqualified drivers on the road.

Too much crap to go wrong. Now the M3 turns off at stop-lights. Stuff like that just doesn't appeal to me, considering that most engine-wear happens at start-up...

:iagree: I stated the same thing a few weeks ago in another thread. Too much technology will take away the real driving experience in a few decades from now.

what the f*ck?? is that real? or are you just joking?

spearfish25 11-11-2010 09:25 PM

The newer Porsches do it too. I agree that the stop-start feature makes me cringe. If I had that feature, my car would cold start every city block I drove in the winter.

Dan Z Man 11-11-2010 09:41 PM

that's the dumbest thing ever..i dont...i dont understand..?? like umm isn't that really not too good for the car?? and not only that, seems retarded, "hey dad look at that nice porsche! thats weird, it keeps shutting off every time we get at a light, must be broken lawlz"

Diocletian 11-11-2010 11:47 PM

anything to save a little gas mileage and get C.A.F.E off their ***.

Well, look at hybrids. The engines are constantly cycling on and off 100s of times per drive and they have been proven to be highly reliable. Thankfully, all the cars equipped with the start/stop feature provide a switch to turn that option on or off so you don't need to use it (thank God).

When gas hits $10/gal, like in Europe, and your smothered in smog to boot, you might like that automatic feature. I believe in some cities in Europe it's the law to turn your engine off while sitting at a red light.

I have been stationed in Germany the past 4 years and I have never heard about that law? Even though it seams like it would be right up there ally, along with all the other stupid laws they make! HAHA!

I heard from somebody who isnt an expert that starting your car burns the same amount of fuel as idling for 7 minutes. True or false?

370zproject 11-12-2010 10:26 PM

10-second rule: Get 30 More Miles Per Tank: Turn Off Engine If Idling More Than 10 Seconds - The Consumerist -- I've heard about this 10-second rule on Car Talk also.

If idling more than 10 seconds, turn it off. With fuel-injected engines, it's not a big deal to turn it off and turn it on again. It's different with older cars.

They also mention a Swiss law (it's up to the city) in this article about turning your car off at a light.
