Anyone else have their gas gauge stuck on Full?

It's odd, my Z has had the problem where the last LED on the gas gauge frequently won't light after a fill-up. Now the gas gauge is fully lit up and won't change (I've got about 60 miles on it since my last fill-up, which means the tank is at least 3 gallons below full)!

No, but that is a scary situation!

I don't like the LED gas gauge regardless, but to not know when you need fuel... wow :shakes head:

nope, but that's why its good to keep track of mileage each fill up...cant always depend on the gauge. my friend found out his gauge in his mercedes e550 was on the fritz the hard way...on the side of the highway.

does the "fuel range" also say it has 'X' amount of miles til empty?

trent1331 11-03-2010 02:44 PM

I've got about 100 miles on my current tank and only one light isn't lit up.
I just decided to fill up via odometer.

Faulty fuel sender? Take it in.

Yeah, I was planning to take it in if it doesn't "unstick" itself. It's just a hassle...

Good point - I'll check and report back.

 If only one light doesn't light up, why do you have to fill up based on the odometer reading?

The "fill-up" comment was a separate sentence. What he meant was since he doesn't trust the lights, he uses the odometer as a guide to fill up.

BTW, for the last 3 fill-ups, I now have 2 lights that don't light-up.

Give this a try first: TECHRON CONCENTRATE PLUS

Nope......not cool unless it means unlimited fuel :) Now if only my odometer can get stuck :) OOoh Yeah!!!

Mine just did this on the present tank of gas, was down only one light and I had driven over 60 miles........ then all of a sudden it started moving again. It can be confusing anyway, as the movement is not linear under normal conditions. I always reset my "A" trip odometer to zero everytime I fill up, so I have a back up just in case.

That's what just happened this morning - when I started the Z this morning the gauge was suddenly down 3 LEDs.

Last night the gauge was still reading full, but the "Range" display seemed to be showing the correct range - about 300 miles. Using an average MPG of about 20MPG that was displayed, that indicates that the tank has about 15 gallons left - definitely not full. So it would seem that the sender is working like it should, but the display is not (either the display itself is bad or something strange is going on with the ECU). And now it's working again like it should - very strange...
