Is the Z a spouscle car?

When I first drove the Z, it did not fit my image of a sports car entirely. It looked like a sports car, but felt somewhat big and heavy. While I heard every bump I didn't necessarily feel them. Instead of a high revving scream, the engine growled like a, well, a V6.

Shortly after I bought it, a bunch of threads popped up here comparing the Z to muscle cars (the Mustang most frequently). Forum members started to leave the ranks for American V8s, magazine articles started to appear comparing sports to muscle, and Youtube almost shut down because of the number of comparison videos being uploaded (I may have made that part up). Whenever the comparison between American muscle and Z's came up, there were bitter arguments about whether the cars are in the same category.

To simplify things, I suggest that the Z be put into a new category of cars: Spouscle Cars (it sounds better than Murts Cars). This would be reserved for sports cars with attention to power. The criteria:
2 seats
300+ HP
Wheels at least 18"
No V8 - V6, 4 cyl, FI, pedals, anything but V8

My question to you, fellow and fellete Z cult members is, what do you think, and what else fits into the Spouscle Car category?

I suspect the Z will reign supreme in this category, and that I will somehow become famous for setting this trend. I can already imagine the headlines: "ProfessorDave settles the score!" "No more silly Mustang comparisons!" "Is ProfessorDave the Stig?" and "ProfessorDave caught in love triangle with Carmen Electra and Scarlett Johansohn!"

professordave- i would add "no sunroof." :p

Rui Z 11-02-2010 03:16 PM

Spouscle car sounds like a car that your wife would drive once she leaves with half your stuff. I put my vote in for regular sports car. Go put on an aftermarket exhaust if you want it to scream.

I want a Z 11-02-2010 03:18 PM

the reason the Z gets compared so much to muscle cars is because they offer similar performance for a similar price.

when shopping and comparing, there are not many 2 seat $30,000ish sport cars to look at

tjlazer 11-02-2010 03:31 PM

Thats what I thought! A sports car that is SPOUSE friendly! LOL That would be the 7AT 370Z ;)

tjlazer 11-02-2010 03:51 PM

Not sure I would want my "Spouse" driving my Z! She can get her own. ;)

In my fantasy she likes it when I misspell her name. And when she's been naughty.

Ken, I almost put "no sunroof" on my list. Dammit! (or and sorry, I can't get multiquote to work for me today)

Now, back to :stirthepot:

wishihadnav 11-02-2010 05:47 PM

muscle car sports car the lines are blurred...

the mustang and camaro can and are called both...

the z will never be considered a true muscle car but so what
it doesn't need to be.but it is a true sports car in every sense
of the word... and what matters to me and the reason i bought
the z is it's fun as hell to drive and it looks better imo than either
the stang or camaro....i know it gets more stares and comments....

Nice cars..but what's all over the Z?!!! A bird have severe case of the diarrhea's or is that snow?!!!! LOLZ

Oh, yea..as far as the wife comments goes " my wife isn't allowed to drive it.." Well, my husband isn't allowed to drive my Z unless I'm in the passenger seat...and he's taking me somewhere :driving: And I yell at him all the time for running yellow lights:eek:

steveg78 11-02-2010 09:44 PM

I appreciate the creativity Prof. You're academic spunk shows clearly in your creative writing.

I think the stuff all over the car is coke :)

And I let my "spouse" try to drive the Z. She was extremely scared of the car but was able to manage to get into 2nd gear fairly easily. I wanted her to experience the power and now she appreciates the car more. :icon17:

Thanks Sophia! and yeah, we took delivery in Canada in January.... go figure! You can see the snow tires on her too if you look carefully.

I drive it when the two of us are out, but she drives it all the time by herself. She is a great driver and shifts like a pro. Guys go apeshit when they see her driving it!!

No, the 370Z doesn't have enough power to be considered muscle. It has great handling, though, and a wonderful suspension with a driver-oriented interior. It's a pure sports car.

I believe the car category you're looking for is one of the following:

Ruscle = Road/Muscle Car
Moad = Muscle/Road Car

Well, those roll off the tongue much better than Spouscle!

Still, the thread was started for the purpose of good humored discussion (and a chance to continue my delusion that one day Scarlett and Carmen will be in love with me), and the comments have been great thus far.

To digress to the "spouse" theme, my wife has no interest in driving the Z. She drives stick (has since before I met her), but does not like that she cannot see the road over the hood. I keep telling her that whatever is a few feet in front of the car can't be THAT important, but still not interest!

Eric 11-03-2010 11:05 AM

I feel that the Z is more of a Touring Road Car... But don't call it a Toad. :driving:

I think it is better compared against the Audi TT, BMW Z4, and Porsche Cayman/Boxster rather than a Mustang or Camaro.
