My First "Wave" from a fellow 350Z driver!

I've always gotten a sign of acknowledgements from fellow 370Z's on the road (and a few ZX's, too). However, the amount of 370Z's that I see in SD are pretty scarce, so in honor of the heritage, I'd occasionally wave or honk at nice 350's that would drive by.

Problem is, after driving the car for 3 months, I never received a response or an initiation of a greeting from the 350 crowd. Figured it was a fluke.

I finally got what I wanted - a sharp looking white 350Z gave a quick flash as the sun was setting when we passed on a residential road. I couldn't return it in time, since I wasn't expecting it. :p

Wife was in the car in front of me, and she commented on it when we got home.

"Why'd you get flashed?"

I told her it was a "hi".

"Nice 350 - great color. It looked different!" It had a tasteful body kit on it. Funny my better half can now recognize the diffs between the two - and they're both still Z's.

Kudos to the fellow Z owner who also appreciates the heritage!

I've had my Z for 9 months now and got my first wave from a 350Z on Friday.

Ztoon 10-24-2010 10:38 PM

I get nods, waves, thumbs up, from everyone except 350 drivers. The closest was a thumbs up from a 350Z passenger at a red light. The driver, however, wouldn't acknowledge my existence. Go figure!

Man I bet that moment has happened to everyone, hell I went :eek2: when it happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Somebody chalked it up to the tender age of the typical 350 owner.

TongMan 10-25-2010 06:47 AM

I get stares sometimes from 350z owners, but never a wave or nod back.

3SeventyZ 10-25-2010 09:39 AM

I usually get a wave every now and again from a 350 owner.
Not too often tho..

Mt Tam I am 10-25-2010 09:47 AM

I have seen a copper colored (Daytona sunset) 350 convertible driving by for months, and while I always get a wave while I am on foot. When I am in my car I seemingly get ignored. I waved as the 350 went by. Nothing. I drive up behind wave, then flash my lights and wave, still nothing. Four miles later through all kinds of twist and turns, I go another direction and wave one last time. Nothing.
I just got a wave from a kid in a 1977-8 280Z. I did not get too many waves from 350's while I was driving my 300 either. What makes 350 drivers so arrogant?

red6spd 10-25-2010 09:49 AM

Most of the time when I wave at a 350 owner he gets confused. LOL

Actually, it's only owners of 2004.5 350Z's ........with miata doors.

import111 10-25-2010 12:17 PM

I never get waves. I wave to a lot of Z owners all the way from 240Z to 370Z and 90% of the time don't get a wave back.

When I had my 05 STi I got waves from almost every Impreza I saw.

It's not arrogance, it's owning a car that rattles like a GM, has more plastic, and barely puts 240whp down. It makes you kinda bitter when you see someone with a car that isn't a pile. Been there, done that, wasn't bitter though. Knew better was coming :)

All jokes aside, the attitude on this forum is NOTHING like the crap I saw on the 350 forum. It was like middle-school all over again.

Worry not - for time makes fools of all of us. I promise you it will happen here - just wait until ever other *** hat can afford a used 370.

was driving through cypress the first night after i bought my car. a fixed up 350z pulls up, guy rolls down his window and starts cheering at me. must've had some alcohol. he was having a good time and was so loud that I was pretty much scared of him. but...i felt welcomed in this Z world. it was like an initiation...

Waiz 10-25-2010 07:29 PM

Next time be sure to do this...

ProfessorDave 10-25-2010 07:29 PM

Last week I had a very nice simultaneous "nice car" exchange with a silver 350 at a stop light. We're all brothers in the Z family, right?

SophiaZ 10-25-2010 07:35 PM

I've gotten waves and honks from 2 350z owners around here ( when I had my black Z)
But now..there's a 2010 Red SS Camaro driving around here and he flashes me and is very polite at street lights ( he flashes for me to go first :) when going in opposite directions) Very surprising! I always flash to fellow Z owners...and now my new Camaro friend haha

elm_tx 10-25-2010 09:02 PM

I noticed over the past couple of years that when I drove my '95 300ZX (she was very clean, stock, garaged) that fellow 300's would flash their lights. I did like wise. Unfortunately that car met an untimely demise courtesy of a ill maintained p.o.s.

I've noticed that none of the 350Z's acknowledge me, no biggie, I tried with a few and quit. There was a thread on here that I thought explained that rather well, the 350 is a dime a dozen right now and not really being driven by only die hard Z owners.

What has surprised me is twice now(I've only had the car since August) I've had a 370Z come up and fall in behind me. I've tried a wave (as in nice car) but they don't reply. So not sure why they made the effort to catch up with me only to sit behind me.

But I like the idea of giving the other drivers a small parade of newer Z's :driving:

That's part of the problem - there is such a diversity in Z cars from the 240Z to the 370Z that a lot of guys seperated by a generation don't recognize the heritage. The Z31 guys are the funniest being the red headed step child and all they are in shock when an S30, S130, Z32, Z33 or Z34 waves at them ;) They want to wave but they are in such shock they never respond fast enough and start waving at the Civic behind you ;)

I find the lack of waveage from the Z33 guys is just the girl who bought the pretty converitible sports car when asked what kind of car she drives she says "the white sports car".... don't expect and comradery from people who don't know anything about what they are driving....

Haha, that reminds me of a street-light 1am encounter I had a while back.

I pull up to a red-light next to a black Range Rover. My windows are up, music blasting pretty good.

I hear muffled shouting, so I turn off the music wondering what is going on. I hear someone sounding pretty pissed. I roll down a window to hear better.

"**** YOU! **** YOU!!!!" comes wafting over from the Range-Rover.
I look over and the guy is staring dead-ahead, not looking at me at all.

I thought it was wierd as hell, then I hear him: "You're red. YOUR ALWAYS ****ING RED!! YOU SHOULD BE GREEN! WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS ****ING RED!!!!"

I realize he is yelling at the traffic light. The guy was putting SERIOUS passion into it, every vein standing out, etc.

Then he turns to me and says "ITS ALWAYS RED!!!". I had to admit, I ALWAYS do arrive at that light when it's red.

THe guy continued to shout until we pulled away. Kinda wierd, but funny as hell and he had a point. Damn thing always was red.

jaedub 10-25-2010 11:59 PM

I always wave at 370z drivers but half of em dont wave back. I feel neglected if they dont wave back :shakes head: However, I do get few waves from a 350 drivers occasionally and I quickly put my hand up to wave back

Jquad 10-26-2010 03:16 AM

Hahahha I agree!! 350z owners be HATIN!!

npdabest 10-26-2010 03:22 AM

I had a G35 owner follow me until we stopped at a traffic light and we chatted a bit.

Not much acknowledgment from the Nissan side though.

IDZRVIT 10-26-2010 07:50 AM

I wave at other 'vettes or older classic cars when I'm driving my 'vette. I wave at all bikes when I'm riding my Harley. I don't wave at other Z's when I'm riding my Z. Why is that?

When the Mazda comes out with replacement 370Z doors and you buy a set, I will acknowlege you and not a moment sooner!

.....seriously, I wave at every Z I see, no matter what year. :D

sonic370 10-26-2010 07:55 PM

when i first got my 350 i tried to wave to other 350's a couple of times
nothing. then i joined the 350z.com forum and figured out why. most of those guys got issues.

when i got my 370 same thing no wave backs so i gave up. maybe i look pissed off all the time i don't know.....

at least this forum is a whole lot cooler....

LuckyJinx 10-26-2010 07:59 PM

370z guys do the cool-guy head nod and go on our way.

I've encountered 370 owners who won't even look over/acknowledge that their is another Z next to them, I chalk it up to some people are just "too cool" no matter what car they drive.
