Mods for street-driving, stock look owners

Since a lot of people here are into mods for appearance or performance, it can get confusing for someone who wants to make changes that will make the Z a better, safer street car.

So far I added:
  • An invisible bra on the front bumper, lights, partway up the hood, the mirrors, and the door edges.
  • Changed brake lines to SS (Goodridge) and changed fluid to AP Racing DOT 5.1.
  • Added a backup cam
  • Changed the summer tires (Bridgstone Potenza) that came with the car, to Michelin Piolot Sport A/S Plus. (all weather and Z rating)
  • Bought a new radar dectector (Escort 9500ix -- it has GPS and a database of red light cameras and speed traps) and had it wired. It is in a bracket that puts the detector under the rearview mirror.
The car is a 2010 touring with sport package and navi.

What have others done for a strictly street, none show car?

This might make a good sticky thread. I had to wade through a hundred threads to get to what I finally did.

off topic but you misspelled Seattle in your Location. Also, You should come to our meets sometime at Southcenter.

As far as what mods I have done for street, I would say S-Tune suspension since it didn't lower my car at all, and sway bars. Handles like it's on rails. Intake and exhaust are also not just for looks...

Oops. I have lived here almost 4 years. I should know how to spell Seattle.

I had a local mod shop do it for me. I bought a NavTool controller (talk to them if you have a 2010, it needs a special version) and took it to Landmark Auto. They supplied the camera and created a bracket for it. The camera is located in the top left corner of the license plate area. Hard to spot and high enough to stay out of water and mud.

It displays on the navi screen when I put the car in reverse. It is wired to the backup lights.

I'm not sure why you would consider the A/S tires safer. They are just as useless in the winter as the Bridgestone summers.

If you drive year-round the best setup would be summers for the dry months and a dedicated set of wheels and snow tires for winter.

The A/S tires get a very good review for cold, wet, light snow. If there is more than a tiny bit of snow, my wife will take me to work in her 4x4 pickup. I read a ton of magazine and owner reviews. The A/S (All Season) consistently rates in the top of the pack.

It was 37 deg here this morning and I could feel how hard the Bridgestones were.

i have spoken to them, but not for a few months. last i had checked was that its not plug and play for the 2010 (whereas it is plug and play for the 2009)and needs a bunch of wiring to be done in order to work.

how much did it cost you
parts?
install?

I have a Beltronics RX65 Radar detector, but past that my only other addition that I consider adding safety (for the engine) and piece of mind for myself is installing my 25 row oil cooler.

I ran into a dangerous situation caused by high oil temps over a few weekends ago. I was driving up I5 north and hit the first mountain pass section. I was still oil cooler-less and slowly but surely, the oil temps started climbing. I was initially going 70 but I tried to slow down to help but the temperatures kept going up. I inevitably hit limp mode and I literally could not even maintain 45mph which was almost as slow as the big rigs trying to weeze up. The temperatures would not get lower as I was still going up hill until I started the downhill section and coasted down. Anyways, sorry for my long winded rant on that topic!

Good choice in tires. I replaced the oem tires with the A/S Plus also on my old 370Z. High tread wear rating and they still got me around the turns in street driving. I found them a bit quieter also.

That depends on whether he drives in the snow or not. I'm picking up all-seasons for colder weather driving, but my Z will not see snow...

As far as mods--what do you want from the car? HFCs, tint, intakes, etc all are nice minor mods.
