If you search 'oil cooler' and look in the DIY, you'll see many other options too.

They meant warranty affecting the engine. |

That would be a mighty rock indeed. I think it all comes down to the individual. You pays your money and you takes yer chances. I personally don't track my car so I don't see the need for an oil cooler and I'm no saint on the road neither.
|
I would get one installed if it wasn't for the void of the powertrain warranty.
But I hope that next yr the engine blows, since is already on the oil consumption problem list too. |
Yea i look at it this way...what are the chances a rock or something else is going to dmg the oil cooler i have in now....almost 0. Id be more likely to get in an accident i think and then hey, insurance takes over anyways.
That said im paranoid about fluid levels. I work on the AH-64D Apache and we are always checking over engines, hydraulics, and gearboxes to make sure everything is filled to where it is supposed to be. So i just take that level of care, and do the same with my car. On average i check fluid levels 3 times a week and im always looking under the car and in the engine bay to make sure i dont have anything going wrong. Now is that a little excessive? Probably.... but it takes less than 5 min to go over the car and check it which is well worth that piece of mind. Anyways im off the box (insert "cool story bro" here) |
Check my sig for a DIY on a NISMO.

I'd worry more about metal eating beavers attacking the oil lines instead of the cooler itself.

Yes, Baker will install an oil cooler.
|
you can buy the hks oil cooler mounted inside the driver side fender for your peace of mind regarding rocks.
|
A rock hitting the oil cooler would be no different that a rock hitting the radiator or the power steering cooler. In fact, Nissan should be glad to keep the warranty with any aftermarket oil cooler since it helps the longevity of the engine. I personally got a Stillen 25r cooler because I never want to have to worry about high oil temps in any condition ever again.
Plus, the additional oil capacity and keeping the oil temperatures down will aid in the longevity of the engine in my opinion while allowing longer oil change intervals. |

An oil cooler failure that destroys your engine is pretty much the only time Nissan is going to void your engine warranty.
|
Nissan has been very coy about intentionally tagging this stateside Nissan oil cooler "competition." Yet, we have already learned that in the Middle-East the 370Z arrives with a factory oil cooler already installed: does my car have engine oil cooler !! PIC & VID inside. You can blame the bloody corporate lawyers for such tomfoolery.
