Cant Fill Up Gas Tank
This has happened to me twice.
I am at the gas station, trying to fill up my tank I put the gas handle in the gas tank, and as my car is getting gas from the pump, the handle would click off, but im no where near filling the tank up. I try to fill the gas manually by holding down the lever, but it wont give me any more gas. after a couple of attempts, I had to move to a different pump to get gas. But same thing happens.. Anybody have an idea what is causing this? It happened to me twice at different Shell gas stations.. |
It's a common issue with Nissans I've seen it in my Z and in several other cars as well. It may be tied to the pumps in California
but I don't recall exactly. |
trying turning the handle upside down and pumping that way, seriously that used to be the fix for the 350z
|
I get that happen once in a while, but it is just a quick click after I just start to fill up or sometimes randomly in the middle of filling up. I just let go of the handle and squeeze the handle and it starts filling again without issue. I thought it was just me haha.

wierd. thats never ever happened to me ever. in all my three nissan cars.
|
This happened to me on my 350z and now on my G37. Its mad annoying!
I usually just finesse it a bit. I think it happens when the gas is being pumped to fast. I have to pump the gas at half speed to get it to fill. |
Nothing to do with the car and everything to do with the pump handle mechanism. Happens with every car I own at different stations.
|
It seems to help sometimes when that happens to me if I pull the nozzle out of the filler neck very slightly, just an inch or so. I always assumed it was some kind of weird backflow that caused that to happen, although I'm not sure how when the tank is empty.

I believe that you have to firmly push the spout handle more into the gas inlet to solve that issue.

Its the work of the devil. He wants your car. He can't have one because he drives a Cube and is jealous of you.

i just stand next to it for 2-3 minutes and i still have 1,437 minutes to myself

This exact thing happened to my 2000 Avalon a couple of months ago. It's a venting issue to the tank. |
I had this issue on my 2006 G35, most of the time it would not take more than half a tank. We had it "corrected" by the Infiniti dealership and it started again and because I had stopped taking it there for oil changes they stated they would not stand behind me since the car was 5 months out of warranty.
Now I have a '10 NISMO 370Z. E |
It has a lot to do with the handle and the way it seals when you fill-up. If you look at a gas nozzle closely, there are 1-2 hole on the sides near the end. Its basically connected to some type mechanical mechanism that "trips" and shuts the gas off when the hole is covered like when the tank is full. Sometimes there is a little gas left over or something blocking that hole and shuts off the gas. Just go slowly at 1st before applying full pressure on the lever and you should be fine.

The G35 has a device halfway between the fuel tank and the fuel opening that controls the flow of fuel into the tank. My G35 had a problem with that device and they had to drop the fuel tank and replace the piece. It was a known issue with the 2006 G35. Cannot remember what the device was called.
No matter what we did the car would not accept more than half a tank of fuel. E |
