2011 370z... Gun Metallic?

Sorry if this is thread also contains reposted info, but I did a search n couldn't find a thread to build on.

So the new color for the 2011 370z is gun metallic. A color already featured on the Nissan GT-R. I always thought 40th graphite and gun metallic were identical colors with different names. Anyone here see a difference between the two colors? I guess you get 40th graphite without the dark rims and red leather and can now opt for an auto???
Anyway... anyone tired of having 5 shades of gray, Why can't we have more shades of blue and let's get orange... nissan has more shades of gray than I ever seen in one car company. What is the deal???

On a side note, the nav package on 2011 will bring a rear view camera. It took 3 model years to get it right but they got it at least. I know a lot of 09 touring owners will consider trading up now for the OEM camera. This is one car that I don't even know how a rear camera isn't standard on the base car. The times I drove the Z and put it in reverse, I close my eyes n use the force. Lol. This car has no close range rear view without a camera. The back window is nothing but a light source.

any more sources than that? looks shady, but not far fetched.

theDreamer 10-08-2010 12:50 PM

That info is correct, camera and new color (gun metallic).
It is all based on the color codes, gun metallic is KAD

Not 100% sure but I think the 40th is KAV.

KaienZ34 10-08-2010 01:02 PM

Yes the 40th color code is KAV..PG code is K51..Red code is A54..Yellow code is EAC..Black code is G41..Silver code is K23..Black Cherry code is NAG..White code is QAB..Blue code is RAE..

At least it's not poop brown like the new Audi color.

Instead of a new color, how about a new clear-coat formula/application technique?

esfourteen 10-09-2010 11:17 AM

thank god I have my "limited 40th anniversary edition"

Tell me about it, while I have barely any chips on the front end I have aquired what I call a few clear coat etchings from insect or bird. Its less protective than my softer domestic paint on my 97WS6.

I also got a front clear bra.

TN370ZLC 10-10-2010 12:50 PM

I can't believe it .......

That's all we need ..... another damn silver, gray, dark
gray, graphite, light gray, dark silver, pewter, light silver,
and dark pewter.

What the hell Nissan ? Don't you folks in Japan know
what a color palette is ? Heck, every-time that I see a
movie filmed in Japan - I see color everywhere. It's not
just the palette of silvers (light & dark), ... it's all colors.
Get with the program Nissan. Cut back on all the varieties
of silver and get some colors on the 370Z.

I do like the Black Cherry Color ... it is nice and a start.

Thank you and end of rant ........ a future customer.

Oh yeah .... this will be the 8th Nissan for me.

Is the rear view really that bad on these vehicles? I can't believe all these claims that you can't see anything through your rear view...I don't see how a car company would put a vehicle like that out into the public's hands if there was such an issue with visibility.

you can see out the hatch of course, but you cant see much, thats why they gave the car such large side view mirrors. it takes some getting used to but it's not an issue.

What's it like in a parking deck with one them? Is it a nightmare mixed with praying to the space pope that you don't run over some old lady or something?

Or urban parking even.

I still find it tough, although I am starting to get used to it. I try to back in to spots to make things easier when pulling out. There is enough visibility with the mirrors to back in resonably well.

In a few cases where I had to back out while there was alot going on behind me (traffic and tons of pedestrians), I slowlly inched back by feathering the clutch while revving the engine a bit higher than usual so my exhaust would warn folks to :gtfo2: my way. LOL

I imagine backing in a car that small is relatively easy...I haven't been able to ever master it with my land yacht of a G8...it's hard enough to put it into a regular parking spot forwards with that car.

You driving your Z year round here in Jersey or are you going to be using a winter beater?

Try adding in the NISMO wing and rear vis is pretty much gone. The mirrors are very good at compensating for the lack of vis out the hatch. You get used to backing into or out of parking areas in a short time.:ugh2:

As far as colors go, I am a little upset that they discontinued Cicane Yellow, Volcanic Orange, Midnight (both the Blue and the Purple), and lastly, Nagaro Red. They were all colors that set Nissan (especially Zs, Spec-Vs, GT-Rs, and S13s/S14s) apart from everything else on the road. It is sad that it is cheaper to offer multiple shades of white/grey/black.

BalanBro 10-10-2010 05:49 PM

Yea seriously, enough with the gray. They are too similar to add yet another shade. They need to bring back the cool 350z colors. Those were classics.

Havsie, I have no plans of driving the Z year round. I don't have a garage, so I will be storing it in my parent's place sometime in November. It's not my daily driver so no big deal. I have a Scion tC as my beater. It's a cheap car, but also such a great value in terms of refinement and build quality for the money. It's got reasonable torque (2.4L) and a 5MT, so it gets the job done.

BTW, that's a mighty tasty looking fish you have there, although i prefer mine sliced thin and served over a bed of sticky rice.

What about orange, green, burgundy, etc.? I don't know why they took away yellow.

The Chicane Yellow was the "special" color for the 2009 MY only.

WarmAndSCSI 10-10-2010 11:53 PM

For MY 2012 they'll probably offer gun metal or black wheels for each trim level. How exciting!

Niche79 10-11-2010 05:19 AM

Id really like to see the old 350z royal blue, that color always made me smile and drool when one went by! I have a blue car now but im not fond of the 370z light blue, its just too bright for my taste. The yellow was a bit far fetched for me as well, I like a nice yellow but it was too bright or light for me. I agree, the silvers are a dime a dozen, ive been keeping a keen eye on the for sale forums to buy a used z from here but all i ever see is silver, even my old HS buddy bought a silver 370z!!! As long as nissan doesnt bring back that God awful orange, ghetto color ewww:)

The rear view is poor. The mirrors do help, but not that much when backing up. I had a backup camera installed. It uses the NavTool device that puts the image on my nav screen. It makes all the difference in the world when backing out of a parking space, particularly when two giant SUV's are on either side of my car. The backup camera is a really nice addition.

I knew it was only for 2009 but it is a great color for the Z, instead of having all those shade of gray.

Plus I really don't like that Cherry Black color unless is rag top.

UNKNOWN_370 10-11-2010 10:33 PM

all i know is this... the z is a quality vehicle. It is a performance bargain, but not due to features. it is more due to capability. That said, the z with its most basic option package pushes it to $35k. i believe nissan and all other car companies can afford to at least put a quality paint finish on the car in this price range. furthermore, they can offer us a broader spectrum of colors. as mentioned above, the 350z did so much better offering true car enthusiast grade colors. i hope nissan gets on forums to see how owners and enthusiasts feel about their decisions.

:iagree:

Deep metallic green. Or a nice orange metallic. And they need something more like a deep burgandy metallic--something that is closer to a dark red than the "missed the target" black cherry...

black cherry isnt bad except on cloudy days. it turns into doo doo brown. i do agree though that it missed target. it wasnt what we were all expecting, but its still better than yet another shade of gray. i can definately do the orange!!!!
how bout midnight blue metallic. that would be sick.

The BlueMax 10-12-2010 09:24 PM

After considering the chicane yellow I set my sights on the Monterey blue, I used to prefer a darker blue but we all change our tastes with age. The blue pearl reminds me of a Grabber blue except its not opaque. All of the local dealers were and are still afraid to order it, they all think that silver, gray, and black are the only colors that have any resale value. They can keep on thinking that and when I pull up everybody starts looking at it, some of their salesmen have never seen it, I just keep driving around with a seldom seen sports car with a rare for this area color.

bigdog1250 10-16-2010 11:21 PM

I'm pumped that the platinum graphite is being replaced by this new shade. I do agree that other colors would be welcomed with open arms, but who can say no to a sexy new grey?

*Also not mentioned is that Black Cherry will not cost extra anymore.

Yes new clear cloat/paint is needed

I WANT a sexy royal blue, or that Orange thats gonna be on the 1 series M!
BMW has some nice shades....
