Awd 370z

So imagine an AWD 370Z (sorry for anyone who clicked this thinking one exists!). It would be a few hundred pounds heavier, but would launch like a catapult. What do you think the 0-60 and 1/4mi times would be? Do you think it would beat the current 370Z around a track? Would you buy it over the RWD version?

The floor is open...

I feel like the lack of torque would negate a lot of the benefits of an AWD system unless you are running more power or are FI. I also think that the driving dynamics could veer away from the type of car the Z was designed to be both in weight and the fact that the front wheels would be driven.

If the AWD system is refined, it could be a great asset though and we could probably see mid 4 second 0-60 times.

If it existed I would have liked to have purchased, but I'm sure it would have only been available with the Auto (which is a no go for me) and I'm sure you would have had to get it with the tech package, the navi, the your mother package, the omg package, ya know how Nissan does it. Anyway 0-60 I'm gonna guess maybe 4.4-4.5 and the quarter probably around the same, since the added weight and drag and low torque.

Car & Driver tested the auto 370Z at 4.6 sec 0-60, I would think AWD would increase drive train loss and weight without improving traction enough for a benefit unless it came with a healthy power increase.

Imagine the noise inside this car with more moving parts :shakes head:

That is why I didn't get the Lexus IS, AWD and not enough power.

sonic370 10-01-2010 07:54 PM

no sorry..... sports cars should be rear wheel drive only....

Since it would weigh that much more I would stick with my RWD. Coming from an STi I do miss AWD though, and if they weighed the same, I would go AWD.

Isn't here an awd g37? I don't think that is faster than the rwd g37.

From what I've been told and understand that the drivetrain from a G37 AWD will be a direct bolt-in to the 370Z.
Downsides are the extra weight, having a automatic transmission, maybe extra noise, cost of conversion and the really big cost of a TT kit and support mods to take advantage of the AWD.

I'm sure someday, someone, somewhere will do it, just to be different. Personally, I'd rather just buy a used GTR and play that way.

The AWD sedan is faster than both the coupes. :)

If there was AWD I would be sold.

kenchan 10-02-2010 04:14 PM

as mentioned already, i too think they need to put a lot more power before adding awd. it's going to feel heavy and slow like a subaru legacy. lol

I miss my 09 A4 Quattro for this, but im hooked to rwd, there will always now be at least one rwd car in my garage.
