Brake and Oil cooling question
 
I have a touring sport (just 3 weeks now) and have been enjoying this forum. There have been a number of threads about the brakes failing and oil overheating. These threads have been in the context of tracking the Z.

I don't plan to race. I do drive windy mountainous roads that sometimes demand braking and extra push from the engine (at least the way I drive).

Is there any reason for me to be concerned about brake failure? Do I need to flush the system and replace the brake fluid with SAE 5? Do I need to add an oil cooler?

I have not experienced oil overheating or brake issues to date. On the contrary, the Z's sport brakes feel great on the road.

Oh, one more thing. This is probably silly, but since this car is brand new to me, I think about small changes. When I took delivery and for the first 1,000 miles, the voltmeter locked in at 14 volts. Just what I would expect to be the generator output. The last few days it reads a solid 15 volts. I realize it is only a one volt deviation, but the fact that it is a change and not a transient one makes me wonder.

If you're not going to be tracking the Z your just fine.
Oil coolers are good if you're going to do tracking or
Spirited driving thru the Canyons. The Akebono brakes
Are pretty impressive for a daily driver. I have pushed
The car on Canyon runs in 90+ weather with no fade.
Not bad for stock brakes.

The only thing you would want to change on the brake front is maybe flushing them with some new fluid with a higher boiling point. You could upgrade pads but you are most likely ok in stock form. I believe that an oil cooler is a must in demanding situations. I think it is pretty unacceptable that oil temperatures can climb to 250+ just from sitting in traffic and ambient temperatures being around 80. Once you start pushing the car, the lower oil temps will be invaluable.
