I hate overpasses.....
Well, let's see....where do I start? Today is my two week anniverary of owning my yellow 370z but Monday I have to take it into the body shop for repairs. Last Wednesday evening while driving home on Interstate 395 going under an overpass something either fell or was thrown from another car and slammed my hood. And I do mean slammed....sounded like a sledgehammer hit it. I knew there would be damage but didn't know how much until I pulled into the driveway. At night it looked bad but the next day....under the light.....there has to be at least 4 or 5 dents and one scratch that is at least 3 or 4 inches long and maybe 1/2 inch wide and bored all the way down to the metal.
Whatever it was it was heavy! Thankfully when it bounced off the hood it didn't come back down on the roof or trunk and there is no windshield damage. $782 in body work needed....thank goodness for insurance. The saddest part? I haven't made a payment yet and hadn't reached even 200 miles on the car. Heck, I hadn't even pulled into a gas station to put my first tank of gas in the car. (I've broke 200 miles and put my first tank of gas in since the accident) My aunt said you've gotten the first one out of the way......the first is the worst they say. I'm thinking ANY in this car will be the worst....hahaha! So, I drop it off Monday and it should take 3 days to fix. Not bad....at least I'll have it back next week. No liquids running from under the car, the horsepower is still there so it appears to just be cosmetic damage at best. I wonder how long before I can get that Xzilon paint protection put back on the hood? Also, I want to get that clear bra now more than ever.....I want the ENTIRE car wrapped, in fact. I'm considering taking before and after pictures so I'll show the damage tomorrow. |
wow...that sucks big time...damn crumbling bridges
at least u'r ok and a small piece fell instead of a big one...... take some pics for us to see. |
With the impact you described you are very lucky that the object did not go through your windshield!

Since the accident, I have to agree with you. Everyone said the same thing....you're lucky to be alive. I never really thought about it that way...I was only concerned about the car. But, a car can be fixed....I may not have been able to be repaired. ;) |
Yeah, you have to look at it this way. You are one lucky guy. This could end up a lot worst. Glad you are ok.
|
Many people have been killed in that situation. It sucks your car was damaged but at least you are fine. Let's see the pics.
|
That sucks! Glad you're ok!
|
Damn. That sucks, man. There people that throw crap off overpasses all the time here. Lately, they've been putting large chain-link fences around the over passes with walk ways for that specific reason.
|
I remember hearing on the news that throwing cinder blocks off of overpasses was apparently more common than I thought. Several people have died.

Was this a heavy traffic area? There might be traffic cams in that area that would have caught something. its worth a shot to check it out and possibly contact the DOT.

I hate humanity for it's reluctance to save itself over it's own greed. And unfortunately, those who WANT to make a difference are to few to impact those with all the power. If we live another 15-20 years from today, it will be by miracle. |
this happed in edmonton where a kid through a rock off an over pass. it went through the windshield of a school bus killing the drive. kid was charged with manslaughter.

Well, here you go....a few pics of the damage. The first hit looks like it happened just to the right of the Nissan and it rode up the hood from there:

That's awful! It makes me sick just looking at it. I can only imagine how you're feeling. Keep us up to date on the repairs. Good luck!!!
|
Holy shiznit... I'd be crying on the spot. You ever get that heart sinking feeling? That's what I get.
I had a friend who barely had his 3-series for a month when he hit a deer one night. He saw a couple of deer walking towards a fence so he slowed down. As he got close, one of them charged towards his car and smacked the front quarter. Another one of my friends, after getting a new job, bought a brand new TL-S. He barely had it for a month when the car in front of him slammed the brakes as he was merging on the freeway. I was on my way to work and saw a TL-S on the side with broken headlights, and found out an hour later it was him. O_o I'm getting quite OCD upon the arrival of my Z next month, so I'm hoping to get enough rain to wash away the sand. It gets pretty windy here with sand blasting the new cars at the dealership. >.< |
Wow! That damage is a bit worse than I'd imagined... You must have done something bad in a past life... J/K... It's not that bad. That does blow though. No worries. It's just a car and you're not dead, so you live to tell about it. The important thing is you're ok.
|
Haha....I may need to "borrow" that quote of yours, Crash but modify it just a little....."You can't own a nice car in the D.C. area"

Sorry to hear about the damage, OP. Like others said, at least it didn't go through your windshield  |
Uggh...thats just horrible bad luck :(
Keep your chin up. I'm sure she'll be lookin like new once its fixed! |
I've got major sympathy for what happened. About 10 days ago, someone on the freeway (couldn't tell who) kicked up a rock into my windshield. Small pit and crack right in my line of sight. Called my insurance agent and it was replaced ASAP. I was devasted and pissed so I can begin to imagine how much worse 2theextreme must have felt.
BTW, if anyone has to have their windshield replaced, be advised that it involves loosening/removing the fascia on the A pillars and the roof fascia above the side windows. The tech that did the job was very careful both disassembling/reassembling everything. Everything is like brand new again. |
Pretty sick that there's people out there who get their jollies off of lobbing bricks off overpasses at passing cars. Obviously the people who do this are sociopaths and have no connection or empathy to other human beings. They should be placed in a pot of oil and boiled alive.
|
I hate overpasses because of we'll let's see you are driving along and u have a very expensive car and the bridge collapses. You would be screwed. Once I was driving under one and the vehicle I was driving was a raised pick up truck. And a pice the width of a semi fell and the truck ended up upside down due to the piece falling on the back of the bed

holy thread necro, batman!
