Friendly Advice for those purchasing the Z...

So after a few months of ownership, i love my Z but wish someone would have warned me about the paint and what not, so here's some friendly advice.

*if your anal about keeping the paint top knotch, seriously consider which color you want. From my experience the SOLID RED chips very easily. e.g. Freeway driving , small gravel rock hits front corner of hood below windshield, damage= chip straight through the red into the silver. happened twice at average speeds. If i knew this about Solid Red i would have went with White.

*make sure you have them throw in some factory touch up-paint.

*when they wash your car before delivery, WARN THEM about how you want to maintain that showcar gloss with NO SCRATCHES from the cloth.

that is all guys, i was kind of mad when i got a rock chip today, and wanted to warn others before making that purchase.

better yet, don't let them even touch your car, and take it to a real detailer, have it clayed, polished, and sealed/waxed.

I thought since you had a 350z you would be familar with nissans paint. I have almost 7k now and have no complaints about the paint. But I always buy silver cars.

I agree with you, I have nothing bad to say about my Platinum Graphite paint. I am extremely anal about the paintwork and while I have seen a few fish eyes, it seems to be very solid minus a healthy dose of orange peel.

Also, the paint heats up really quickly when polishing with a rotary and gums up the pad and polish. Using a DA is much easier and detailer friendly.

got a clear bra, the moment i purchased the car, but clear bra only covers so much, unfortunately. taking it to a real detailer would be a good choice if you have extra funds.

With the 350z, i used it more as a track car so i wasn't really concerned with the chips, so i never really paid attention. Silver is a good color that does do a good job on hiding blemishes though.

Monterey Blue is the best color to keep up, no issues with mine plus I had Clear Bra installed for those rock chips. ;)

:iagree:

Drove mine home, next day had an appointment for the clear bra. Still looks perfect.

how about the black? I haven't heard any issues on that color?

My Laser Red '04 G was very prone to chipping - it had a brand new rock chip the day I brought it over the get a clear bra installed. Getting one installed is HIGHLY recommended - I believe the paint is rather thin, but given any rock at freeway speeds, it's gonna leave a mark, regardless of what paint is installed.

bump?

What about black??? :)
