What improvments would you trade your Z for?
So with all this talk of the next Z coming out, it got me thinking. What the one thing that Nissan really would need to do to or add to the next Z that would get you to run down and trade in your 370 for?
For me power in it's self isn't going to do it for me. it would be hard for me not to go right out and bring home a new Z with a targa top. I think it's timethey make a comeback. |
drop the weight by 200 lbs, 350+ hp and at least 300 ft/lbs, gear LSD instead of that viscous BS, resolve oil consumption issue on ALL Z's, some have it, some dont, we need some continuity. Thats pretty much all it would take for me. Oh, and ensure all cars in the lineup have SRM so that those that cant afford it, dont have to pay an additional 3k for the feature.

I'm keeping my current Z for a wild, unless I hit the lotto. However, some more power and that Nissan work out all the issue known since the 350Z would be nice.
|
I'd consider trading in for one with TTops
|
I won't buy another Z unless they decide to put the 5.6L in it. :D
|
Factory Twin Turbo or Supercharger...but highly unlikely. The 370z is hard selling even as it is right now.
|
This is a tough market for a "toy" car.
|
Not sure I would trade it in for more power or a different top. My other Z has two turbos and t-tops, but if they totally redesigned it and went with something like the 240Z retro style body I'd consider it, just depends on how it turned out. Too much retro can be a no-go.

T tops for sure would be an improvement. A VDC button that acts like the S-match button and stays on or off where you left it. Neither would be enough to trade for, but throw in appreciably more torque and power too, I just might. Let it be known, I am pretty happy overall. |
Less weight, more power.
|
Less weight is mandatory. Would also like a lower ride height. Getting tired of looking down to Vettes and Ferraris. More power isn't necessary, I can turbocharge myself and blow the doors of almost anything in production.
|
I know I am in the minority, but I would like a lower seat or the ability to lower it more.
Beyond that anything I "need" for this car I can add myself or better than Nissan could provide at a competitive price. |

I like targa tops, but I don't think I'd actually get one. Added weight due to maintaining structural rigidity and possible chassis flex issues (NSX)? Not really my thing. |
IMO, the next gen Z needs some work in a few areas. 1) a sweeter engine sound/less harshness at high revs. 2) a clutch with smoother engagement and a more natural feel...currently, the pedal feels over-boosted and artificial. 3) a more responsive e-throttle calibration (or a sport throttle setting) 4) more low-mid range torque. 5) a rear window design that doesn't block as much rear view.
Otherwise, the current Z is a real nice car...tight, rides well, handles well, looks good, nice fit-and-finish, etc. If the above problem areas were fixed, the next Z would be even better. |
i would trade mine in if they came out with a variable AWD system one you could adjust the distribution of the power to the front and rear wheels.
|
Miata doors for sure, they should just reference the 2004.5 350Z for inspiration! No but really less weight, more power
|
I'd consider it they included a targa top and a dual clutch tranny. Alcantra interior would be nice too.

gear LSD (coming apparently as noted by a recent article), more power in a more refined engine with less NVH.
If my Z could pull <4.5s 0-60 and low 12s 1/4mi, I'd never want anything else. |
I guess I should've sprung for it then -_- I was too caught up reading RCZ's other thread and didn't even think about it lol
