Does this make me a bad person?

I like to get in the Z, start her up, and watch the gauges peg (or clear, i don't know what the PC term is). Then I call over friends, passersby, random people, and do it again. It's mesmerizing! Is anyone else obsessed with this feature? Is there a way to get even more gauges in the car to do this? Or should I be seeking a program to help me with this problem?

lllll210lllll 07-21-2010 09:25 PM

lmao

Lemers 07-21-2010 09:27 PM

Yes you are a very bad person. Repeatidly cold starting you Z just to see you needles peg is horrible to the car.

HATED1 07-21-2010 09:28 PM

lol, i like to close my door really hard so i can hear the aluminum shake!

Lemers 07-21-2010 09:31 PM

I hear miata doors are a good fix for that

Jesse_Hunter 07-21-2010 09:33 PM

I constantly stop watch check the delay from the time I shut the door until my windows seal off.

CrownR426 07-21-2010 09:36 PM

Tuners like UpRev have full control over the gauge cluster.. and can do wacky stuff like use the TPMS light for shift lights, and basically anything you wanted to do with it..

I believe they were toying with the idea of a completely gauge driven method of installing the tune, no laptop needed, by hitting different pedals and getting responses from needles and things. LOL!

ProfessorDave 07-21-2010 09:51 PM

^I want that

Every time I start my car and the gauges do that, I always think about the person on here who took a picture of the speedo at the 180 mark or something like that. LOL.. I don't even remember who did that but when I start my car, I think of that. Maybe I'll think of this thread now LOL

Jordo! 07-21-2010 11:25 PM

I found the gauge sweep thing annoying and switched it off.

up+down+gas+brake = hp boost

steveg78 07-22-2010 12:26 AM

Do aftermarket gauges do it too? For instance, boost (if you have a SC).

wh!plash 07-22-2010 07:49 AM

Every sportbike I've ever had has done the sweep thing when you turn on they key on. Except for the bikes that had LCD segments in a bar as the tach "needle".

Yall kill me with the miata door's. Was walking into the pharmacy last week and an old dude gets in his miata and I instantly look at the doors and bust out laughing. I just wanted to touch them so bad

Obviously your first Z. Yep, neat feature. (BTW, you can turn if off from doing this.) It's been around for many years.

So close your eyes.

All I read was the header, but the answer is yes.

Matt 07-22-2010 05:44 PM

Does it make me a bad person if I never even notice this in my own Z?

sonic370 07-22-2010 07:22 PM

i like that feature to. but it won't be as fun to look at when they stick on wide open!!

Dwight Frye 07-22-2010 08:05 PM

I too found it annoying and switched it off. It serves no purpose. I also programmed my alarm so as not to beep the horn when I locked the car. I don't want to annoy others like they annoy me when I'm walking through a parking lot and all the soccer moms are beeping their minivan horns. Some of these features are just plain annoying.

CBRich 07-22-2010 08:14 PM

Does the 2004.5 Z do this too? Because if so, it probably does it way better.

trent1331 07-22-2010 09:11 PM

For some reason my gauges dont do this anymore? :(

someone explain?

Danny3.7 07-22-2010 09:14 PM

I had an 09 corolla rental and it does the same thing..(gauge sweep)

You can set this -- there's a display option or something like that on the mini computer for the base model, and I'm sure a whole menu for the touring edition.
