question about my recently bought 40th anniversary 370z

I love it so far and read everywhere that breaking it in isn't really necessary with new cars these days, I have redlined it once or twice and it has 489 miles on it. I have floored it a few times but not to redline beside those couple times. Earlier tonight someone at a gas station asked to hear the engine and while it was in neutral I floored the gas and noticed it wouldn't rev past 4600 rpms...is this normal??

Congrats and Welcome! :hello:

If you have the 6mt? Try putting it in 1st gear, and holding in the clutch, if you have the 7AT? thats normal for it not to rev past 4500rpm. there is a no load sensor that limits the rpm to 4500rpm.

Thank you, I have a 6 speed with the synchro rev tranny and while just leaving my tranny in neutral, it won't let me rev past 4600 rpm or so.... :/ so its not normal?

If you put in gear while holding the clutch? You should be able to rev past 4500 rmps.

Ok, I'm at home right now, so is it normal to not allow me to rev past 4600 rpm while in neutral even with a synchro rev manual 6 speed?

in neutral yes.

Ok, I haven't tried launching the car in gear yet but I'm sure it will let me rev it higher in gear...just didn't know if it was normal to restrict me to revving it to only 4600 rpm while sitting in neutral, glad its normal :) thanks. And the breaking in thing I stated before, that's not hurting it right? I mean when people test drive cars they floor it, so rarely is a car TRULY broken in lol

The Owners Manual is a guide. I'd baby it for at least 1,500 miles and then change the oil,
after 2,500 miles be a little more aggressive with it on occasion.

I didn't know that was normal. I gotta try it.

well theres the normal break in method and the hard break in method. but either way id suggest you change the oil in your car. after all that hard driving from the beginning theres gonna be a lot of metal and break in debris in the oil. so change it out.
