Air Con. ON = Lower Oil Temp.?
I realized when air con. is turned on, the oil temp is lower than usual.
Could it be because when air con. is on, the coolant fan is on as well? Anyone here notice? Or I am hallucinating? |

I think it's cooler because you feel cooler.
Like people talk about global warming on the hottest days of summer. 'Man, it's really getting hot on planet earth...' |

Hummmm........

I don't feel the oil temp being cooler; the oil gauge is telling me it's cooler.

I drive w ac on all the time....if anything, ac makes the engine run HOTTER.

Here's a theory:
AC cooling off the engine?? - Fuel Economy, Hypermiling, EcoModding News and Forum - EcoModder.com Quote: The dual fan theory may be closer to right. Most of these vehicles equipped with a/c will have a dual fan setup with one dedicated to the condenser. So it is likely that the second fan would and may be cooling the car a little more. |
Call me crazy, but I noticed lower oil temps with the AC on sitting in traffic....

So I am not hallucinating.
What does the hammer and nail mean? |

and yes, my temps are usually 10 degrees lower when the AC is on.

i noticed that as well
|
my temps are lower after I install an oil cooler :0
|
i think this might be the case because of how the ac heat exchanger and radiator are somewhat integrated... so i think the refrigerant running through the heat exchanger is effectively cooling the radiator... i am not sure and am just theory mongering .. hahah

great...im running the a/c while on the track..haha

It doesn't make sense, your putting an aditional load on the drive system because your using the air compressor. Now unrelated the water temp trick, needs the heater to be run to lower the water temp in case of an overheated engine, but the Ac on to lower the oil temp? I don't think its possible. What maybe hapening is that as the reving of the motor slows because your at a light or in slow traffic the engine is able to bring the Oil temp down a bit since your not pushing it. so I think thats the reall reason and not the Ac.
