I've driven a stick since I was 18 (trust me a really long time ago lol) but I went with the 7AT because I love the option to drive with the paddles, (or stick) or just put it in D and cruise. Yes I admit I am a bit lazy. At times I would love to have the 6mt but other times I am really glad I got the Auto. Maybe I should just buy a second Z in 6MT LOL!! That would be sweet but a hard sell to the Mrs.
Hey maybe the next gen Z will have an auto with a clutch in manual mode. I think that's been done before hasn't it? |

I feel like the MT with Syncrho rev match is more advance technology that the Auto tranny in this car. This is car just uses a torque converter, its not really considered advanced tech anymore. a lot more economy class cars now have a automatic as standard or a very cheap option. Double clutch=advanced. Torque Converter = been around a while. btw IS this the same 7AT as the G37? |

It is a fun irony that there are folks acting high and mighty about the cheaper option. :icon17: That said, I do enjoy having my hand on a stick, even when driving automatics. :eekdance: The choice was easy for me with the Z, since I wanted 6mt AND it was cheaper. I can't imagine this car being boring to drive with 7AT, though. If nothing else, the crowd on this forum who say it isn't boring, and who actually own the 7AT, probably convinces me that it's fun. |

I love when people tell me that I simply do not know how to drive stick good, that's why I drive AT. Always want to reply with "ye a 7AT 370z, meanwhile you're driving an Accord." But I can't say that cause that would make me sound like a spoiled douche. |

In manual mode there is no significant delay in switching gears (in terms of human shifting, it is faster than that.) |
Quote:
By delay, i dont mean in the actual gear shift itself, i mean in the time that you press the stick/paddle in sport mode to the point that the gear starts to change seems a little laggy. Like if you click the stick forward and then take your hand away from it immediatly, you sense it more. its like .click, hand off........................gear change. |
My gf has a G37 with 7AT and when I drove it in manual mode there was definitely lag from when I initiated the gear change with the shifter and when it actually started shifting.

Is there any delay when using the shifter rather than paddles? Her car has no paddles.

I've seen a lot of AT guys always say 'Driving in traffic is the reason they went for Automatic' I've driven AT & MT in traffic. It doesn't matter which one you're driving.. Traffic sucks, period. I mean come on.. really.. is it that much difficult to clutch and shift during traffic?!
But! I'm not hating.. I don't care if you drive an AT or MT. Heck, if I could afford it I would drive a GTR or even a Ferrari I would probably go for a AT... F1 AT/Clutch=Amazing! To each their own though. I just prefer my MT :) |

I personally got the AT cuz it shifts faster and I dont have to mess with a clutch.

7AT is better then the manual. :stirthepot:
Im really, why does a AT person care if someone else drives a MT, and why should a MT person care if someone drives an AT? I say get over it and live with it. If one of you want to buy me my next dream car you can pick which tranny I get, till then, its my choice.......and its a better choice too. |

GENERALLY people get sports cars with manual transmissions, so people wonder why you would want to go against the norm. so they ask. |

We host international students and from what i have seen they are generally very babied, spoilt, rude and arrogant etc. Only one has been gone in about 50 that we have had. Their parents buy them the cars and houses, most of them come from very rich chinese families.
|
Yeah this AT/MT thing has been wore out.
To each his own iv'e had both now driving the AT. But i understand why the manual guys like the 6sp they won't total control over the car.the 7sp doesn't offer that. there are times to me that the auto can't make up its mind which gear it want's. but in manual mode with those paddles its another story. damn 6sp or 7at the cars still hot! |
That was a terrible poem.

Rather than start up another flamewar on this retarded debate I will write a haiku:
A tranny thread has started Six speed or automatic Profound sadness I'm a poet and I didn't know it! |

i prefer MT over AT and i envy people who enjoy driving AT cars because nowadays, it's easier to buy a nice car with AT than a nice car with MT (For instance you can't buy an AMG with a MT).

This MT vs AT argument is so stupid.
You just can't change peoples' minds, so stop trying. You won't 'win'. Just like you won't make a gay guy straight and they won't turn you gay. Save your energy. |

Dammit! We gotta try! :tiphat: |
