370z ride
i have had my 370z with sports package for 3 weeks ,when i test drove it it rode very nice .now that i have driven it for a while the ride seems very rough brothers my back. could the 19 inch tires be the problem here?:mad::mad:
|
That's um....strange. Was it a sudden change in ride quality that you noticed one day? Or is it more of a 'now that I'm used to driving this car and the early excitement has subsided, it annoys me' thing?
|
What are your tire pressures?

I guess it depends on your definition of "smooth" but my Z rides super super smooth and I have sport package 19's.
|
maybe you have been riding on different or bad roads.. make no mistake the stock ride is firm w/sport package but not abnormally so.. it rides quite nice.
|
I have the SP. My Z rides just fine. What was your last car, if you don't mind my asking?
|
^ OT Semtex, but was Senna talking about Spa? or ironically was it Imola?
On topic: If he says his last car was either a lexus, infiniti or merc then we have found the issue. |

And yes, depending on what the OP's last car was, it will help put some perspective on things. That's why I asked. ;) Because I was thinking -- okay, I think the Z is smooth. But my last car was a 350, and my car before that was an S2000. Our perceptions of ride quality depend largely on what we're accustomed to. |
Definitely the tires with the low profile. You may want to go to the dealer and test drive one without the 19's. See if it makes a difference for you, and change the wheels/tires. It is amazing how much of a difference a summer vs. touring all season tire can make on ride quality.

My lasts cars were Lexus's and the 370z is still smoother than my 350z
|
You had an NSX and you are complaining about the ride of the Z? Back to Senna with the NSX..weird.
Yeah semtex, I figured it might have been Imola...makes me sad to think about it.. It should feel somewhat similar than the nsx actually, I'm surprised you find it harsh... also why ever would you replace an nsx with the Z? |
I have the sport package and find the ride quite nice for the handling and tire choice/rim size. Every review I have read says about the same thing.
|
So after reading all this, I wonder if it's possible that something's wrong with mono01's Z. Like maybe a shock gave out or something? Seems very unlikely though. That's why I asked if he noticed a sudden change one day. Anyway, a visit to the dealership wouldn't hurt.

I've never driven an NSX, so I don't know how it rides. But if your NSX had stock rims (17" IIRC), the Z's 19" rims with low profile tires might be part of the reason. I've only test driven the Z (w/ sport), but I was impressed with the ride quality. My cars have ranged from luxury ride (Benz), to sport luxury (BMW), to sport (M3 & FD RX-7). My old FD was an R1 model, designed to compete with the original NSX, but it had the harshest ride of any car I've owned. |
NSX is a nice ride! I just test drove a Z (7AT) today - Touring model. More impressed with the AT than I thought I would and the ride was smoooooth to me!

how does your new 370z ride on rough pavement?
|
|
well, since it's a performance car with low profile tries
(low profile tires have less side wall area, so it doesn't flex to absorb bumps) you'll feel every single bump & crack on the roads to ur bum |
Actually it rides very nicely, nicer than the 350.
|
This is not ment to be snarky but doesnt any car have a rough ride on rough pavement? I understand that a VIP sedan with a bags or a lifted truck is going to be smoother than an NSX but still, rough pavement is rough pavement.
Make sure the tire pressure isn't low. I say take it to the dealer and make sure you haven't somehow blown a shock if it truly feels different from first purchasing it, but either way the Z is going to let you feel the road. |
Please keep the thread on topic. If you don't have anything to say related to the OP's question, please stay out of it. There is a useless thread in lounge for useless replies. This goes for all threads at all sections at our forums (Except off topic section)

Whoa, I feel like I just traveled through a wormhole in the time-space continuum with the thread-merge!
Okay, to keep this post OT -- mono01, I've actually been thinking about your question, and I have to confess that I'm having trouble coming up with an answer, because what constitutes 'rough' pavement is kinda subjective. Do you mean something like a road with a few cracks and expansion joints? Or do you mean something with massive potholes? And here's the thing. One's perception of ride quality in general is subjective. What feels comfortable to me might feel awful to someone else. So when you ask 'hey guys, how does your Z ride' -- well, will our answers really have any meaning to you? Too bad there isn't a way to objectively measure ride quality. Like with roadholding, you can objectively measure the g's that a car can pull on a skidpad. I'm not aware of any parallel for ride quality. |
SEMTEX What are you talking about......nothing happened....did it ?
LMAOOOOO |
AK merged two threads together. See post #21 above? That used to be post #1, then I pointed out that mono01 had already started an older thread on the same topic (which is this current thread), and AK nuked the new thread and transferred all the posts to this older thread. Which is how post #1 became post #21.
|
I followed that...but what about all the posts that were deleted with the useful information? Did you miss them ?
|
When I picked up my 335i sport it had 18" run-flats. I thought the ride was pretty stiff. I switched to 19" non run-flats and the ride improved, much better. Tire geometry will affect the ride as will tread design.
By any chance do you have the seat in a new position? I find that I am very sensitive to seating position. Has something to do with the 16 screws, 4 rods, 3 shims and butterfly plate I have in my spine. That said, I find the sport package comfortable. Alan |

mono01,
Did you buy your 370Z off the lot, or was it a dealer trade? I ask this as sometimes those who trailer cars strap them down incorrectly and sometimes damage the suspension. Have you had a good alignment shop take a look at your suspension? Or have your dealer look over the suspension. |
