To beat or not to beat

I'm curious - how many folks are planning to have a beater car along with their 370Z as opposed to using their Z as the main ride?

c-town 02-13-2009 02:30 PM

Have to give my sister my car which is basically a beater now, in return my parents help with financing for my 370z coming in March. If I ever need to use a bigger car my family has a sequoia and 2 older Lexuses!

Good options...

I love the Z and all, but this thing is not a lambo. No reason to make a 30K car a garage queen.

hehe true that!

Crash 02-13-2009 06:52 PM

My Z will be in the shop getting work done to it pretty often, so I'll need another car. I decided to keep my 90 300zx so that I have that car to drive while my 370z is getting worked on. I still like my 300zx, so I won't have a problem. I know I'm going to be totally spoiled on the 370, but it could be worse... My beater could be a 79 Honda.

Pushing_Tin 02-13-2009 09:02 PM

Mine won't be a garage queen, but with all of the pea gravel on the roads right now I take my truck most of the time.

Z34drifty 02-13-2009 10:57 PM

I'll take the beater I love my Kamuri

RwIron 02-18-2009 01:56 AM

well im not rich enough to own two cars at a time, but my family car would be my so called "beater" car. Its a acura TL auto.

zsport1 02-20-2009 11:04 AM

I have a daily driver. Z is strictly fun miles. :yum:

m4a1mustang 02-20-2009 11:06 AM

Right now when I buy my Z it will be my daily driver, however my parents have a 1997 Buick with low miles that I might buy from them to use as a winter car.

G&M Performance 02-20-2009 12:14 PM

I'll use my '08 Honda CR-V during bad weather days, and my Z during nice days.

your telling me, last night going home, some truck in front of me picked up a rock straight the the hood, took a chunk of paint and proceeded to the windshield, where i now have a crack in the center of it. It has ruined my weekend.

Sorry to hear about that...

Sorry to hear that. Have you thought about a clear bra? I actually had them install some on the rear rocker panels as well as rocks seem to hit this area very often too.

LiquidZ 02-20-2009 01:23 PM

I will daily drive mine. Luckily my girlfriend has a beater than runs like new so I can use it whenever I need to.

The Weapon 02-20-2009 02:06 PM

Nope, I put work miles on my Mazda 3 and groceries. Weekend miles on the Z. My daily commute is 38 miles and i am in a car pool with 3 other people. I only drive once every 3rd week and we barely put any miles on our cars.

hey32g 02-22-2009 11:52 AM

I have a 3 car garage, so its place is already reserved, and it will be a mega garage queen.

theDreamer 02-22-2009 11:53 AM

The Z will be my daily drive, will treat it the best I can everyday.

Absolutely, my will only be coming out for fun rides on sunny days! The rough NY winter killed my '07Z and I can't stand seeing that happen again!

par4bmw 02-22-2009 12:06 PM

You forgot option 3, the Z will be your beater car.

That almost makes me feel nauseous. what worries me is the practicality. I'd probably trade the pony for the Z, which means loosing two seats. Dinky seats which only work for kids and people with no knees, but seats none the less. Probably have to buy my first beater first.

Crash 02-22-2009 02:12 PM

I'm 5'7" and usually fit in the back seats of even a Porsche! But when I saw the back seats in the 05+ Mustang I laughed my @ss off. You'd need to be paraplegic to sit in the back of the stangs now. The back seats are a joke.

Yep my 335 is a great looking car, but it's getting beat to hell out there. I've gotten to where I don't even take great care of it anymore. It's a lease they can have it in 14 months.

Yah, that's very true. It doesn't help that I sit F-16 style (front lip of the seat as high as it goes, back of the seat as low as it goes, and pretty heavily reclined) so if there ever was a rear-right passenger they'd be SOL. But, the seats are still there.

Anyone using/considering a 370Z as their only car?

theDreamer 02-22-2009 06:42 PM

It will be my only, going to get rid of my crap car.

Crash 02-22-2009 09:16 PM

I don't plan to make it my only car, but I still won't have any cars with more than 2 seats, unless I'm driving a couple of hot chicks around. Then the passenger seat turns into a two girl seat. ;)

epod86 02-22-2009 09:50 PM

The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking I'll get the 370Z then some sort of beater/hauler/people carrier, be it wagon/hatchback/minivan, used. I was originally thinking the other way around. The pony is in a pretty good resale spot right now, though I did take the hit since she's out of 3yr warranty, but still around 23k miles. Once she gets up to 40-50k, start really hurting in resale. One thing is for sure, not going to finance anything. Too many examples (good and bad) in the family, I've learned the lesson without every having had to do it myself.

shumby 02-22-2009 09:58 PM

I don't baby the G i have so when the wife gets the Z it will be driven year round. but on really snowy days I would use the maxima i guess.
