Then a couple months ago I saw one in action at an autocross class. It took last place. The driver seemed alright but his times were so poor that my love of the S2000 waned to like. My time in the Z was 54 seconds, his 1:08. I realize this is anecdotal, but this is how impressions can be made.

The Z has grunt over S2000, but to say it is a "one trick pony", is not doing justice to it's handling.

the s2000 runs a class up from the z, so your story most likely boils down to "crappy driver"

I think the OP should buy the S2K, then after a year or so, sell it and buy a Z and then after another year or so, sell the Z and get.....a 5.0 'stang! :happydance:

Obviously SOME people that post on here have more money than sense and are way to "me too" for their own good.

I like my Z better than I liked my S2000, so if you're me, you should get the 370Z.

If you're not me, you'll have to just figure it out yourself. I suggest driving them.

Wow this thread is old.

Yeah, I kind of agree. Although I think part of that is the Z being new. My S is just about to have her 6th birthday. October 30th! :tiphat:

It is always a "crappy driver". He seemed better than many that day but I'd like to think I could have done better with his beautiful car.

A class up so does that mean it ..... What does this entail if I may ask please.

When you run autocross, the cars are divided into classes, of roughly, theoretically equal performance. The 370z was originally put into B stock, alongside cars like the EVO and the S2000. Because no one was able to be competitive with a SP z, it was classed down to C stock, with cars like the 350z, 300zx, base z3, sky and solstice (non-GXP). The nismo was kept up in B stock, because apparently being able to run obscenely fat tires carries a small advantage:roflpuke2:

The 370Z is a C-stock car, the S2000 is a B-stock car. It just means that for a typical autocross track the S2000 is considered a faster class of car.

But, as you saw, a better driver could put down shorter times in a slower car, though.

yep. autocross is generally 70% driver, 30% tires until you get into the more competitive groups.

Sucks for me then, I don't have the driving skill (yet) to make up for my tires :P
