is the z affordable?

now most of the ppl in this forum can probably afford one.. but i mean is the z really that easy to acquire? would you class it as a lower/middle/upper class car? premium or ordinary?

DIGItonium 02-12-2009 11:50 PM

Perspective... People think I'm rich simply because I drive a Z. I don't see anything baller about it. Yea, it's "baller" if you buy a brand new car whereas others can only afford it at "used" prices.

par4bmw 02-13-2009 12:07 AM

Do not know how accurate this is but it seems legit: Average new vehicle cost: $28,715, down 3%

So, if the average new car price was ~28K, than the Z is above average but I would not consider on the luxury side.

Affordability is another story since many can only afford a used car or no car at all.

FairmanZ 02-13-2009 12:32 AM

I would peg the Z as "middle". But I think for most of the general population, the Z seems "middle-upper". In other words, it looks like it should cost more than it really does.

For the performance and style the Z offers, I'd say it's very affordable. But affordable is a relative term.

sbkim 02-13-2009 08:25 AM

Given that even honda accord loaded can creep up past $30k, I say Z is decently priced. But fully loaded Z runs past $40k which would put it in near luxury level car (G37, bare bone A5, etc.).

I guess it's only matter of time that used 370z will be in the <$20's and will become more "affordable".

Lug 02-13-2009 08:50 AM

I've noticed with my 350Z that many people over the years think it's a much more expensive car than it actually is. The 370Z is a better value than the 350Z was, IMNSHO.

For a true sports car with the features and options, I'd say it should be considered an affordable car. That is, with some saving and / or credit crunching, you can have something that is maybe roughly equivalent (or better?) than a Porsche.

brisk 02-13-2009 11:38 AM

affordable i think.
but people probably think that your 'baller' because you can drive a 2 seater sports car when a sedan is more practical...i think

Asheth 02-13-2009 12:09 PM

I like this question because it makes you think but it is relative.

I think it depends on what how you view things more I guess. If somebody says BMW automatically you think upper-class If you say Nissan you think maybe Middle-Upper. Just from the name but then you look at the car then it becomes probably Upper once they see the car, the interior and so on.

Just wonder How much you guys are paying for insurance on yours??

arcticreaver 02-13-2009 11:06 PM

insurance is about 1100 bucks a year. so about 500 bucks every 6 months. i personally know the insurance people so... hook ups are in place.

CSXJoe 02-13-2009 11:09 PM

thats not to bad.

Crash 02-14-2009 05:32 AM

The way I see it, if the car you're driving is equal to or less than the amount of money you make each year, it's an affordable car. That being said, the average person makes 35K a year, so that would make this car attainable.

But this is just my opinion, although, I see it as true. If a guy making 300K a year wanted to buy a Lamborghini, he could. I won't say what I make a year, but I can tell you that I can certainly afford this car. I'd say that most people that make at least $20/hr@40hrs/wk can afford this car.

frost 02-14-2009 10:44 AM

^ as long as you didn't go crazy with credit cards and whatnot. Also depending on the price of your rent/mortgage. I spend a lot on my mortgage, but that's the wife's choice. If it were just me, I'd live in a studio apartment and drive a zr1 ;]

brisk 02-14-2009 03:53 PM

true.
i think the Z is a good affordable fun car.
besides a car is a depreciating asset.
i would like to save.

CSXJoe 02-14-2009 03:58 PM

I'm just glad I'll have no car payment. Insurance will be enouf lol.

SoCal 370Z 02-14-2009 04:06 PM

Is life short?

frost 02-14-2009 04:18 PM

Can't take it with you, chances are you will die before retirement. Go flippen nuts.

Crash 02-14-2009 07:05 PM

^^^ Wow. I hope not. I plan to retire in 2 years! Dying at 27-28 isn't good!

azn370z 02-14-2009 07:16 PM

I think because the z isn't practical, has only 2 seats and little storage the car ends up being more of a premium car to many people even though it's priced at $30k.

wow why are you showing off?

frost 02-15-2009 12:43 AM

^ because he likes to hurt me

Crash 02-15-2009 01:59 AM

Believe me, I'm not showing off... Yet! LOL

I've been working my @ss off for the past 3 years to retire young. That way I can do all the things I've been wanting to do before they're not there for me to do anymore. I know you're all thinking "3 years? That's it?!" But imagine that the work I've been doing is about 10 times more stressful than your average job! My only vice as been porn. So I deserve this! :)

First thing I'm doing is going sky diving! :) If I fail at that, none of the other things I've wanted to do will matter! :D
