Is the Sport Package Really Worth it?

Hey guys,

Long story short, even armed with the black book, knowledge from here regarding invoice and dealer's holdback (thanks!), the dealers are not budging a whole lot on the cost of a Z out the door...

That said, I'm now reconsidering what I want.

So... is the sport package really worth it?

The spoiler is nothing special to me, and I don't care about the wheels -- it was really the brakes and the LSD that had my interest.

Thoughts? Worth an extra couple of grand for those items?

wishihadnav 05-26-2010 06:00 PM

yes..plus u get the syncrev

NCSUPACK09 05-26-2010 06:04 PM

I think that most people on the forums will tell you that the sport package is worth the money.

BTW, there is a search function on this forum.

totally worth it. you can just sell the rims too. it looks wayyy better with the aero package too.

ZCarMan 05-26-2010 06:08 PM

Yes, worth it.

SigPapa226 05-26-2010 06:13 PM

Syncrev is great.

Where else are you going to get 19 inch wheels that weigh 23 pounds? (i stand corrected shabarivas is right, i thought they were 19 pounds from RCZ's weight reduction thread but my memory was wrong)
14 inch brakes.
Syncro rev
Wider tires
Spoiler
just for 2k?

there are threads on this topic at the bottom of this page in the similar threads section...

Those wheels DO NOT weigh 19 lbs - try like 23 / 24

I didn't get the sports package.

Here's why:
1) I personally think the rear spoiler ruins the lines of the car
2) I live in LA where the front spoiler would have been destroyed in a week. Hell, the underside of the nose of my car is scratched up daily.
3) I like the design of the 18 inch wheels better, plus there'd be an increased cost to replacing tires, which I tend to do frequently
4) LSD - that i do miss, but if i wanted to would just buy that aftermarket
5) bigger brakes won't do much on the streets. plus the base brakes are quite good as is
6) synchro revmatch. a cool thing, for sure, but it's the first run of the first car to ever get it. i don't want to have to worry about it breaking in the future. more electronics means more that can break.

Overall, I think the sport package is a terrific deal for the price, but to me, I figured it wasn't worth it and the extra money just covered the sales tax. Would I like some of those features, sure, but not enough.

Bigger brakes wont do much on the street? hmmmmmmmm.

I got the sport package because it makes the car look 1000 times better, and to add all the stuff onto the car would be atleast 4000 if not more.

Get it, if you dont you will most likely regret it. Unless you just dont care about your car and its just a way to get around.

thats your opinion, I agree with the poster above, I think the spoiler ruins the lines of the car, never been a fan.

The stock LSD is crap, ok for street, but nothing else. SRM is a cool option to have, the brakes are decent enough, overall for the 3 grand extra, for all you get, it isnt a bad option, however, I'd save the 3k and spend that on a new exhaust, hfcs, intakes and a programmer. And maybe one of them bobblehead chihuahuas or hula girl. Oh yeah, keep in mind, if you want to ever replace the stock LSD, which you will if you ever want to drift/autox, you have to purchase additional side shafts for the new system, not the case with a base differential housing.

Buy elsewhere then (keep the sport package in the deal). Forum sponsor Lou Fusz Nissan will sell you at invoice, (and ship for a reasonable cost if necessary). Check him out in the buying section. My Buddy here in town went through Lou and was very pleased with the transaction.

You can't afford the LSD is my take, the 18" wheels suck, bigger brakes not better on the streets? Huh? SRM is one little sensor, cheap fix if it ever breaks, which is unlikely.
