IPL -- Interesting move by Nissan?

Infiniti Performance Line (IPL) is coming this year — Autoblog

Quote:

What's IPL you ask? Infiniti Performance Line, a new catalog of in-house developed upgrades which – according to the filing – will include everything from air filters to cat-back exhaust systems, and – more intriguingly – "automotive engine parts, namely turbochargers and superchargers."
Quote:

This new line of performance parts will likely be unveiled this August in Pebble Beach and be fitted to the G37 coupe.
No, we don't drove G37s -- but it's damn close enough.

Hmm.

This could prove to be interesting.

So they're double-branding the NISMO line so the yuppies with Infiniti's feel better about what they buy?

"Why would I put Nissan parts on my Infiniti?!?!"

Just call it INFMO!

As far as IPL, I'm ok with that. Different badge, different badge engineering. If it helps sell cars and/or performance parts, then more power to them. They'll have to start building their reputation from scratch, though.

Nismo is established and has a 25+ yr history. Customers have a reasonable baseline of expectations for Nismo parts.

IPL could be dog slow or make your G37 explode in a ball of flame. Or it could make your G37x a bargain GTR with plush seats... Who knows? Only time will tell.

aha.. Infiniti is trying to follow the Lexus F upgrades! I think it's a good idea. If these products are going to carry full infiniti warranty, I think many people will put them on. I think it's a good move. Those who likes to retain their factory warranty yet want to upgrade their stuff, now they can! :twocents:

^ i concur

If it leads to trickle over products for NISMO or more parts from NISMO with the intent to trickle over to IPL then it's ok with me.

DarkZide 05-25-2010 09:37 PM

Wait, so do you retain warranty with ANY nismo part?

I know that my Nismo S-Tune parts come with Nissan's Genuine warranty  But I sold all Nismo parts except the spoiler.... too boring for my taste now.

spearfish25 05-25-2010 09:46 PM

All I know is that the G37 supercharger will fit my engine too :)

Lemers 05-25-2010 09:47 PM

The dealer told me I have to buy and have them installed by a Nissan certified service dept. Most the parts carry their own warranty and don't void your warranty if you follow the stated rules.

Don't even ask about the oil cooler. Nissan made some confussing lame statement about it's warranty and your cars warranty.
