Default 2nd time hitting a shredded semi truck tire

Kharma is returning the favor for whatever i did in the past. Since purchasing my Z about 8 or 9 months ago I have come across and collided with 2 shredded semi tires occupying I-90. Both incidents occured at night time and were, in my opinion, unavoidable. The latest icident seems to have resulted in the slightest of slight body damage... My hood seems to be a milimeter or two raised above where it should be near my passenger light. I feel it is a result of the impact to the bumber which transitioned to damage to my hood... Anyway, my concern/question is what is the best way to handle this. Report to insurance? Pay out of pocket? File police report? My main concern is wether my premium will raise and also if I will be able to file the accident under Collision or Comprehensive. My Deductible is 500. Thanks

I misread your post the first time... I thought you were following a truck and their tire blew out.

If you hit something in the road that is already there... it's your fault man. That's why you have insurance. I wouldn't bother with a police report unless your insurance company wants it. Not much you can really do.

I'd just pay for it out of pocket. The extra premiums once they raise your rates -- and they will if you make a "your fault" claim -- will cost more in the long run than a grand or two getting your hood straightened out.

Update: I did a quick search. If the insurance company treats it as part of their comprehensive coverage and not collision, there is a chance you will have no deductible and rates won't raise -- though they can raise your rates for any reason they want anyway .... according to some folk online actually asking about whether something is covered can affect your rates ... you may be screwed unless you actually already know how your ins company handles this stuff

Not sure how much damage you have or how much it will cost to fix - I had a very similar incident a few months back - came across the entire tread of a semi spread across the entire lane of the interstate at night and absolutely no way to avoid it. Hitting it tore a whole in the bumper and completely crushed the foglight on my Odyssey. I actually passed the truck on the side of the road as I got off at the next exit to check the damage. I should've gone back and gotten the insurance information of the trucker but I never did. To replace the bumper and the foglight ended up costing me about $1k. The shop did a great job but I'm still ticked to this day that people have to go through stuff like that.

Good Luck!

Pay out of pocket, insurance companies would love to suck more money from you for the next couple years.

Ok after further review and analysis from my fav RX-8 owner (PuertoCuba) it appeers that my front fascia is the culprit, and not my hood... So i'm removing the fascia tomorrow and attemting to realign things myself. Thanks everyone for your input and wish me luck!!! Oh and I mosdef am not going the insurance company route if it's just my bumper. Look out for FI TDX vids next week!

Yeah, probably best to take care of it yourself especially if it's only the front bumper.

Good luck!

I ran a over a brick on the freeway doing like 85mph and it messed up my sports package rim and punctured the sidewall of my tire. I reported it to my insurance and told them i couldnt avoid it because it blended in with the road and only had to pay the deductible. It was considered non at fault so my premium didnt go up at all. total damage was like 1400 dollars.

everyone really needs to call thier ins company first and see if it will affect it. If you have been with a company long enough they wont raise it on you for every little thing. And why pay more money than your deductable if they wont raise it. and if they do raise it, its only for the period it takes to recover some money and then it will go donw. Of course thats if its a good company, not all ins companies are good.
