A question for Chicane yellow 370 owners.

I bought a new 2009 370 a couple of months ago. The other night I noticed that under some street lights that the car is two different shades of yellow. I never really noticed in the day time. Both mirrors and the pillars on the side of the windshield along with the two parts above the door for the roof and the gas cap along with the rear spoiler are a different or deeper shade of yellow. Like they were painted at a different time or place and then added to the car. Anyone else seen anything like this?

I haven't taken it back to show the service department yet. It's kinda crazy that you get a new car and all of the paint isn't the same!

Yes we all have that problem, also the ppl with White as well. I know I hear ppl take it back to the dealership and got it all repainted and it was fine. It's like that with mine too.

I have a Black 370z and if you look at it wrong, it will scratch.

370z paint = fail on many levels.

I think it's funny that Nissan has you pay $500 EXTRA for the Chicane yellow, and f's up the entire car like that. I once owned a pearl yellow 3000GT and it had the same issues - front bumper cover, side mirrors, B-pillars, & random body panels were different shades of yellow.. I'm guessing because some components were plastic and faded in the sun at different rates??

Maybe it's a 'yellow' thing. Regardless, I still think it's one of the best colors on the 370, regardless of the slightly different shading.

Yes,agreed,my fuel cover & headlamp washer covers colour not the same with body/front bumper.

it's because these parts are painted in different stages, different locations, sometimes off site, at the supplier... this isn't just yellow, but all cars unless it was painted by an aftermarket bodyshop - all at the same using the same bottle of paint.

Different materials...

All the parts you mention are plastic bits. They'll reflect light differently than metal bits. Strange, I know - but true!

That's black paint in general.

Well it is but the Nissan paint is terrible doesn't matter what color your car is. I had a black BMW for three years and didn't have much problem with the paint and I was in Germany without a garage plus the water terrible.

as an option they should just not paint the cars, reduce the price, and alow you to select a place to have it painted whatever color so you can get a proper paint job. obviously they'd never do this.

<-------------I have this with my car, in some light the top looks yellow, and then the doors, fenders, and bumpers look red.... WTF

wishihadnav 04-30-2010 03:44 PM

the plastics/urethanes will NEVER be the exact same colour as the sheet metal...manufactures paint and bake the shell/sheet metal bare...meaning that there is no interior, bumpers, trim, etc...its brought up to temps that would melt plastics and rubbers...plastics/rubbers may be sprayed with the exact same paint (some wit flex additives) but cannot be baked at the same temp therfore resulting in a slightly different finish.

hope this helps.

I know that cars have different types of metal and plastics that are used in their construction. But the last new car that I had was 06 Scion XB and all of the paint was the same. These are half the price of a new Z. I was expecting a higher quality I guess. Oh well.

some colors are more pronounced than others but every car ive had was off a little on the paint ist just the yellow is more noticeable.. Either you were very lucky on your scion or you just didnt notice it because of the paint color. My buddy has a scion tc and his bumpers are diff colors as well.

that's because those things are made out of plywood and paper.
