Nissan North America response to...
This is the response of Nissan North America in FaceBook responded to one of my open threads. I know this has been cover millions of time, I just want you to see their response and motivate you guys to post your problems in thier FB Discusion Board.
Here goes: "Nissan North America: The 370Z has an engine protection system that reduces peak engine speeds when the oil temperature exceeds recommended levels in order to protect against possible engine damage. Aggressive driving of the 370Z on a race track at sustained high engine speeds can cause increases in oil temperature and may activate this engine protection system. To avoid activation of this engine protection system and these reduced peak engine speeds, Nissan recommends an oil cooler be fitted to the 370Z before driving it on a race track. A Nissan Motorsports accessory oil cooler kit is available for customer purchase through authorized Nissan dealerships for race track use. The part number is 21300-SS370. An oil cooler is not necessary for normal operation of the vehicle on public roads. The addition of an oil cooler would have raised the price of the car and potentially moved it out of the reach of some customers. Value has been a core principle of the Z car since the original 240Z and we choose to uphold this core principle by not adding additional costs that are unnecessary for normal use. For those individuals who choose to drive their vehicle on a race track, the oil cooler is available as an aftersales item. The oil cooler is a Nissan Motorsports item and as such is sold without warranty, express or implied, unless expressly prohibited by law in which case the warranty provided is the minimum required by law. The installation of the Nissan Motorsports oil cooler does not, by itself, “void” the vehicle warranty. However any damage caused by the installation or use of this part is expressly excluded under the terms of the Nissan New Vehicle Limited warranty." |

Would an extra, I don't know... $500-$1000 for this option to be part of the sports pack put the car out of reach? |
meh the same canned BS nothing new here
|
I responded that them that at least should be an option with dealer warranty.

That's cool, Papo, the more we complain maybe they'll get the message the pricks

After spending 30k+ for a sports car, a 1-2k dollar oil cooler option should be available. Now i find myself watching the oil temp gauge all the time.
Correct me if I'm wrong but did'nt Bmw have the same situation with the 335 and later corrected it by retrofitting oil coolers to early models and adding to sport pkg in later years. m |

I find the 'additional cost to the consumer' argument to be garbage. If Nissan is making thousands of these cars, they can put together an oil cooler kit for probably $200 or less. There is no reason an oil cooler kit would be $1000, especially at Nissan's production volume. Simply, if they felt the car needed an oil cooler, it would have been a nominal increase in the overall price of the vehicle.

I thought I posted this on 7.28.09

However, the MAIN PURPOSE of this thread is for fellow Z owners to go to Discussion Board in FaceBook and let them know about your issues, not only oil temp. ;) THE SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE OIL!! |
It's a sports car not a track car, sheesh!
I don't think Nissan has done anything wrong regarding this. |

kinda like how they didn't give you a 5point harness and helment at the time of purchase. it'd be silly to have for public road driving.

Just calm down, once the cars start bursting into flames in August from extreme oil temperatures the US Government will get involved and we'll all get free oil coilers all covered under a 10 year warranty. Now that's all four wheels getting the oil whether they are squeaking or not! :)
|
Damn, you guys don't get the point. Yes that was the respond about the oil temp in FB by NNA and yes is a repost.
However, there are other things that might or already went wrong that your local dealership is giving you the run around. So posting it in the discussion board in FB and with the email address I provided should get your issue some attention by Nissan North America. |
I don't have a problem paying for an oil cooler. And I believe I need one -- I've never gone into limp mode, but have seen 260 degrees in spirited freeway driving and 90 degree heat.
My problem is that this is my daily driver. On the one or two days a year when it gets really cold here, is an oil cooler going to keep my oil so cool that it doesn't lubricate properly and causes engine damage...which Nissan states it will not cover. |
I believe many of the coolers have thermostats which will open and close with oil temps just as the one for your water cooling system. Modshack among others has spoke to this point..
|
Forgot
Also, I don't think the temps are low enough where you live to keep a good oil from flowing well enough to do its' job.
|
why not make the oil cooler part of the sport package? isn't the sport package supposedly for the track?
|
It's a good thing that they didn't decide to include that Nismo oil cooler in the sport package, because I would have had to buy a Ford Mustang with pony stickers on the sides to keep my payments in line...
