370z vs Supercharged E46 M3

This is not a which car is better/faster thread, I hate those. My friend asked if I would drop him off to pick up his M3. He just installed S/C, headers, springs, and BBK. Before he had the work done I was very unimpressed with the M3's performance. It didn't make power until 6k rpm. His car is goregous. Dark blue 05' with 22k miles. It achieved 400whp on a Mustang dyno before he installed the headers. We were both interested what the M3 could do with the supercharger. Only one way to find out. We decided to do a pull from 40mph. He decided to stop at a 100mph p***y lol. I expected him to run away from me. That wasn't the case at all. He ended up getting me by a car length.
I told him I didn't believe he was getting 400 to the wheels, which pissed him off and had him running to show me the sheet. 400whp should blow the doors off a stock Z imo. Thought i would share that with all of you. Hope you guys are having fun in your Z's.

Maybe the dyno might've been off, also the Z weighs a lot less than an M3 and is more aerodynamic. Now if you supercharge and 370z the M3 is screwed

esfourteen 04-06-2010 01:40 PM

400whp, 3500 lb M3 vs 280whp, 3200 lb 370z

he beat you by one car? I wouldn't get very excited, there is no way in hell he is making 400 to the wheels. Either that or the SC/headers/wheels added 1,000lbs to his car...

wishihadnav 04-06-2010 01:42 PM

yeah something doesn't make sense here...supercharged M3 with 400whp should easily walk from a 370..real easily...haha

m4a1mustang 04-06-2010 01:54 PM

Something is up.

phelan 04-06-2010 02:11 PM

i think he got hoodwinked on his supercharger deal lol

Maybe it was an electric supercharger turbo combo.

wishihadnav 04-06-2010 02:13 PM

maybe the M3 kept it in 1st gear?..haha.

Red370 04-06-2010 02:27 PM

why anyone would supercharge an M3 is what im wondering... the turbo kits for those make much much more power.

wishihadnav 04-06-2010 02:32 PM

true...but superchargers seem really popular with the bimmer crowd...maybe its the instant boost?..no lag?...i dunno..

klubbheads 04-06-2010 02:46 PM

properly driven stock 6MT E46 M3 should be as fast as the 370z. Sooo.... you do the math. Driver of the M3 sucked a$$ MAYBE?

wishihadnav 04-06-2010 03:01 PM

maybe the shop forgot to put the belt over the pulley?..hahah!

This was a discussion I had with a bunch of guys at work. Apparently Bimmers love SC for some reason they can't describe. I tell them turbo's grant more power... they don't care. They love the SC for some reason. However, they would never wanna race in an SC Bimmer vs a TC Bimmer... Go figure lol

wishihadnav 04-06-2010 03:26 PM

yeah i have a bimmer myself and superchargers are definately the 1st choice for force induction...

which is far beyond me, M3's are not like Z's in the fact that our SDS systems can produce the same power the turbo applications can, not the case at all when it comes to the 3.2L, a turbo of the same cost produces 60-80whp more, which is why it perplexes me.

e46 M3 produces 333hp naturally aspirated which is pretty much the same numbers as our z..just 300lbs heavier..haha

shabarivas 04-06-2010 03:54 PM

an SC kit that added even say 80whp should more than make up for a 300lb difference... maybe the owner of the car weighs like 900 lbs...

wishihadnav 04-06-2010 04:00 PM

^^haha!...u got a good point there..

E46 m3 coupes are 3400lbs. You are confusing with E90/E92s.

One thing about E46 M3s is that an average driver will not be able to drive that car fast.

Turbo kits are real expensive for Bimmers. The price to supercharge are alot more reasonable. He paid 4.5k for the kit used.

NomadicMarine 04-10-2010 12:18 PM

Dinan setups are bad *** for the M3. Not sure why he SC it

JACKPAC 04-10-2010 12:19 PM

The BBK will also hurt him in a drag race since it's only adding rotational weight to the car without giving any benefit.

Really? :gtfo2:

G37Sam 04-10-2010 07:34 PM

How about you go to the same dyno were he put down 400whp and do a few runs?

frost 04-10-2010 08:05 PM

Wait untill somebody develops a good turbo setup, their better for a smaller car like the Z, supercharging benifits larger heaver cars better.:shakes head:
