Well, he said that he prob could have gotten them off the hood, but he didn't want to work the hood any harder because the paint was thinner than other areas of the car. I think he said the it was 65-70 micrometers. The scratches are strange though, they are very shadowy now, like is said they almost appear to be gone, but can be seen from different angles.

I can send you a small bottle of Demin Water. I work at a High Efficient reverse osmosis plant in ca. We basically super clean water so the power plant can use it on their steam turbines. Demin h2o is the cleanest purest water on the planet. It has no hardness no minerals and no forms of metals, silica, nitrates. A small amount on a cloth will easily bring up any water spots on your car. I have to tell you that you will need to immediately wax the area afterwards. If left untreated it can actually remove the minerals out of your paint and metal. Second dont drink this. It will pull minerals and nutrients out of your body, and give you the runs. This works awesome on car mirrors and windows also.

Commonly referred to as distilled water or feedwater for boiler use as you mentioned.

I would accept his judgement on the paint thickness, and let him detail when necessary!
