370z 40th+stall engine...
 

just got my 40th edition, i love the car, since iam new to MT, iam keeping stall the engine. is it bad for engine or am i damaging anything??

you're probably letting out the clutch pedal too quick. gently engage.

or just give more gas. :p

Find a quiet parking lot and practice letting out the clutch without stalling. Slowly let the clutch out while pressing the gas peddle. It's more about FEEL than knowledge. You'll get the hang of it with practice. Don't worry about damaging anything. One thing you don't want to do is RIDE the clutch - once you let the clutch out keep your foot off the peddle.

Gentle practice will make perfect. As with a new young bride, just be gentle...

as soon as you feel the car bog, push the clutch in and give it more gas, pretty simple process, you'll get better, try practicing at night when there is less traffic on roads that are relatively flat, it'll take a good month before everything is second nature, but the more practice the better.

Don't forget to practice backing up with the clutch also.

save the trouble,buy the Auto if you cannot drive the M/T.

You know, I hate when people say this, the OP is asking about a MT question and obviously he wants to learn how to drive MT, if you can't answer then don't just tell him to buy AT. I, myself bought my Z in MT and its my first MT car and I love it even though I had some trouble the first few weeks.

His Z is a 40th anni,they only come in MT.

When I taught my daughter to drive a MT ,she was reluctant,a few weeks ago she posted in her facebook after a friend of hers was wondering if she should try to learn a standard tranny".

"My dad made me go back an forth in forward an reverse in the driveway a 'thousand times' before I was allowed to go on the streets",I think she over exaggerated in bit ,but she said she has never regretted learning a MT ,it opened the ability to buy all the cars on the market,not just the AT.

Keep at it MTs aren't that difficult given enough practice.

I just got my 40th Z. I had been driving an Integra with a much softer clutch. It took a few days to get used to the stiffer clutch on the Z. Since you have not driven a MT in a long time, it will take longer. However, you will get the "feel" and be happy with the MT. Enjoy!

stiff? when i test drove it seemed light, but I'm used to late 70's early 80's porsches

My father has a 78 911sc targa, and that thing will snap your leg compared to the clutch in the Z. lol

Everyone has to start somewhere. So start slow, don't be nervous and you'll get it. The biggest thing is to be confident in what you're doing and take your time. There are times where you may want to rush it because other cars are pressuring you. But block them out and do it right. And have fun!(but be safe)

You'll get it. My first MT car was a 02 Eclipse. And I tought myself how to drive MT. I never drove MT before but I just show up at the dealer and pickup a MT and drove home on my own! Before that, every time i'm on an AT, i pretend it was MT and practice my food and shifting patern. I showed my wife how to drive MT last week, she was scared and like you did, stall the engine most of the times, but i think she love th Z and want to drive so she will have to learn!!!!...ohh, another thing is you also need to learn how to down shift too...like everyone said, practice and you'll be good before you know it!!
