what exactly does this mean?

I downloaded the 370z brochure and i noticed one of the standard features are bi-functional xenon headlights. I know what xenon lights are but what does bi-functional mean? what exactly is their purpose?

Thanks in advance:hello:

The xenon bulbs serve as both regular low-beams as well as high-beams. If you think about how cars were before xenons, you had separate bulbs for low and high beams. Even in the early days of xenon, it would be common to have the regular low-beams as xenon, but when you activated your high beams the xenons would turn off and separate, non-xenon bulbs would activate as your high beams. (I had an '02 S2000 that was set up this way.) Well, now some cars have xenon for both low and high beams. And they don't even need to be separate bulbs/assemblies anymore. That's how the Z is.

ooh ok sounds good thanks.

This doesnt mean that the projectors move according to steering to improve visibility does it? or is that called adaptive xenons like on merc. and bmw?

semtex 01-29-2009 08:26 AM

The projectors do not move to my knowledge. At least, I haven't noticed them move (and I've had mine for 3 weeks now).

^^^ The Z doesn't have adaptive headlights. I'd be driving too quickly around corners for it to even have time to react anyway...

Yeah on Top Gear they said that's why they didn't put them on the GTR as well. The thing corners too quickly for the headlights to keep up. lol

Headlights look so much cleaner with just one main projector. Some cars were getting ridiculous..

You mean..... you DON'T like the Gatling gun projectors?

:wtf:

I have an ’08 M45X.

I’m not in love with the front end styling but it’s not THAT bad! :)

The front headlights have both a low-beam bulb assembly and a high-beam bulb assembly; both are Xenon bulbs. The M45 also has the adaptive headlight system and the low-beam assembly only turns with the vehicle (and it’s pretty darn quick).

Keep in mind that the current generation M is nearing the end of its lifecycle – I suspect we’ll see some significant changes in the front lighting system when the replacement comes on board.

what in the world is that.....keep the past in the past....lol

never again shall we speak of this

single projectors are much cleaner, i see dual projectors on cars all the time and it's bulky

Well I tell you what...lot's of people "hate" the looks of the 350...the 370...the 240...the M...the G...the GT-R...etc., etc.

There is nothing more subjective that styling...I love my M and my 370.

Kind of looks like bug eyes.
