Do you compare your "Z" to a previous car you had?

Like an old flame... I had a 04 VW R32 and what I miss is the all wheel drive, that was soo fun to launch (you can"t spin 4 tires) and although I have gotten used to the clutch with the "klunks" and the "slack in the cable" I miss the hydralic set-up, also somethng kind of petty is the constant scaping to the front lip.

Huh (?) Not trying to be "petty" myself.... but why again did you buy the Z?

Chico370Z 03-23-2010 04:07 PM

yeah maybe the Z was not a good choice for you lol

I think it is natural to compare, how else would you be able to judge the car

Err........Z has Hydraulic clutch actuation, just like the R32...

The R32 is a pretty cool car though...

i sometimes miss the sound and torque of my mustang but the 370z is far superior in every other aspect

spearfish25 03-23-2010 05:08 PM

Of course I compared them. The Z is better, hence the purchase :).

Very interesting subject for a thread.
My previous "fun car" was my beautiful 1995 M Edition Miata. I bought her new in 1995 and she was too perfect and with too few miles (35k) to give up last fall when I bought my new Z. I will never part with my Miata. She now has Classic car plates on her.
Like two wonderful kids, who have different personalities but whom you love equally, my Miata and my Z are different but both are special to me. The Miata is light and lively and quirky and fun. The Z is heavy and solid and prestigious to own. The Z has awesome power and is a thrill to accelerate and let loose. It is sensuous, sultry, full figured and irresistible. My Miata is cute as heck, with a pony tail, a turned-up nose and freckles and makes driving a happy experience.
Both cars are a pleasure to own and a source of pride. They both turn heads wherever they go. They are different but loved equally.

The last sports car I owned was a 1965 Griffith. Powered by a Ford 289 c.i. V8, 275 h.p.. Weighing less than 2000 lbs., could do 0-60 m.p.h. in less than 5 seconds, which for 1965 was extremly fast.

Can't really compare a Z to a F250... But parked next to each other the Z was the same lenth as the truck, minus the 6' bed. Its easy finding parking spots now. But compared to my old Mustang or Camaro, the Z handles betters, but lacks the torque, and V8 rumble. But its a real sports car not a pony/muscle car.

Zsteve 03-23-2010 05:48 PM

All the time and I tell you I still wish I could have keep my last car too, even though they very similar in style and performance. Had a 08 2.0T Audi TT black coupe chipped full exhaust and CAI, 0 60 in 5.5 secs. Just wanted a Z kinda bad so I traded in. But I do miss the old car at times. Love both cars.

kenchan 03-23-2010 06:21 PM

i did compare my Z to my G and was pleasantly surprise how DIFFERENT these two cars are... enough to justify keeping them both. :D

I sometimes miss the torque and the acceleration of my C6, but the Z is more fun to drive and the interior is much nicer.

Plus our driveways look better with Z's in them instead of those plastic cars....

I had a 350z before the 370..glad I made the switch. BUT..I'm even more happy about my 350 purchase compared to the previous car.. an 05 Neon SXT (LOL) I dont think there's any comparison..the Neon wasn't even considered a car compared to a Z haha. Buy I did make my (3) Neons the best in the county :)

I loved my old 2003 Mustang GT. I had it from my senior year in high school to my junior year in college, so I have a lot of great memories with that car.

Surprisingly, the Z really reminds me of that car at times. The 3.7L's driving dynamics are eerily similar to the old 4.6L 2v V8 in the GT (with a 4.10 gear) and some of the sounds are very similar as well.

To answer your question, I don't think I "compare" the Z with the Mustang very often, but the Z makes me think about it every day. Those memories are the kind that will stick with you forever.

rudi 03-23-2010 07:01 PM

Sometimes I miss the rush and the sound from the turbo of my old Silvia S15

PapoZalsa 03-23-2010 07:27 PM

I can only compare my 370 with the 350 I had. Other than that technology has changed a lot.

I'll always say my Stang was the best car I've ever owned for that very reason.

Agreed, man. My Mustang will always be the best car I've ever owned. It had so much character and I had so much fun with it. :driving:

I miss that car so much. I still have the window sticker from when I bought it. Every now and then I think about running a Carfax on the VIN to see where it is or what happened to it, but I don't. I just like to think it's living the good life somewhere bringing joy to some worthy new owner's life! :tiphat:

steveg78 03-23-2010 08:16 PM

When I bought my 370 I immediately had flashbacks of when I had my 1990 300ZX. The thought that came to mind was "welcome back". I needed to sell the 300ZX in 2003 for practicality reasons as it was my daily driver and I needed the extra room in an SUV. I was close to getting a 350Z a few years ago but held off. Glad I did and now I'm back!

m4a1mustang 03-23-2010 08:19 PM

There's just something about being in a car that you really connect with. There are just some cars that really give you that "perfect fit" feeling. The Z and my old Mustang are definitely two of those cars.

For some people it might be a Mini that does it for them, or a Corvette, or anything else... whatever it is, that's one of those priceless feelings that makes everything, at least while you're driving the car, right.

The R32 didnt have a cable though. The master cyclinder was shared for the brakes and also the clutch. Yea, it was pretty cool, the tone it gave at 3500 RPM is so sweet but i dont regret on getting the 370 what so ever.

elmz 03-23-2010 09:06 PM

I know what you mean man. It took me a while to warm up to the 370. I really loved my 350, and even though I missed it, it wasn't like I regreted my purchase. I guess only a few people can relate to this. Give it some time.

fullmonty 03-24-2010 07:43 AM

I do have to admit I miss the smell of diesel exhaust on a cold morning, and the sound of the clatter during high idle.

RandyJamesA 03-24-2010 10:23 AM

I compare to the other vehicles I drive now. I commute in my girlfriends chevy HHR and I drive an 03 F150 for weekend projects. The one comparison that makes me nuts is the windshield wiper control; its different on all 3 vehicles. On the HHR, you push it up to turn on. Z pushes down. F150 is on the left side rather than the right. The other comparison that mucks me up is reaching for the key to turn the Z off instead of the push button. My step son sees me do it every time he's in the Z with me and never lets it slip by without laughing at me.

cab83_750 03-24-2010 10:24 AM

I kept my 911 and I do miss the handling and the feeling of being connected to the road 'and' the car --- my smile is ear-to-ear whenever I get the chance to drive my ex-old-faithful.

Still, my Z is my daily driver and I like it too. Bottom line.....each car has its pluses and minuses.

areyouin729 03-24-2010 11:54 AM

my past 2 cars were 300ZX and 350Z so it only got better

sinceday1 03-24-2010 12:20 PM

I DO miss my old car sometimes.. but 370z is much more fun to drive than my old 07 A4 3.2L.. like zSteve, i was anxious to get 370z after seeing a black one on the road I ended up trading it in. (I should've kept it for the winter! LOL)
Aside for tight interior, 4seats and quattro, 370z is far more superior in its performance, and the fun factor.
