What's this noise?

Busy day for me and my Z. After washing, I went to open the hatch and my finger inadvertently pressed down a round, rubber covered button immediately to the left of the rubber pad you press on to open the hatch. An alarm like ringer went off, rang for about 3 seconds then stopped. To investigate, I did it again. Same thing. Can someone tell me what in the world this button is and what is the ringing supposed to be alerting me to?

The round button next to the hatch release button serves as a 'lock' button. Kinda like the buttons found on the door handles.

So after taking my things out of the hatch, I can lock the whole car from there without having to go back to the door. Interesting. And most interesting is that apparently when I pressed the button, it wouldn't lock the car because, since my car was in the garage, the fob was in the fobgina. Maybe that's why the ringing was so persistent. I'll check it out in the garage right now.Very well thought out car.
Someday, it may be a star Mecum Auctions. Watched last night and I can see it happening with the Z if Nissan doesn't make any more after the 370.

Funny thing is I've found there are things requiring explanation that are omitted from the owner's manual. Absent rear speakers on the base Z is a perfect example. I'll check to see if this button is explained there. Probably is, but not a lock (no pun intended).

Please, half of the owners of any car will never sit down to read the owner's manual.

Most of the humans will learn by trial and error, that is Human Factor! ;)

Give the OP a break.

I think you're right - I'm pretty sure the ringing was likely the car reminding you that you were attempting to lock the car (via the round button next to the hatch release button) while the key was still in the fobgina. Indeed, the intricate and thought-out design process of the car really impressed me as well, although all the cars I previously owned were 80s-early 90s models so I guess anything would've impressed me. In fact even having cup holders was impressive at first, haha.

Agreed. Besides, a lot of things are best learned when testing it out hands on; reading about it will only do so much for you.

This alarm has happened to me soon after I 1st bought the car. My husband was driving but I had the key in the purse. We went to get out of the car, hit the lock button, and I put my purse behind my seat. After we both closed our doors....the car went screaming. It think it's basically telling you, you left the keys in the car with it locked. So maybe..you can't even lock you keys in the car :)

That's why were are here for, OP. I personally have learned a lot just reading on the forum. As long as you have a legitimate question, we will do our best to answer it for you. Now, if you start asking oil questions ...... :icon17::stirthepot:

kenchan 03-14-2010 05:14 PM

which reminds me... is it okay to use M110 on the 370Z vs the shorter M108? :D

BTW, I was reading my Sunday Newspaper today and saw that kittens are now listed as an endangered species in my area. Why, you ask? Because I have punched one every time there was an oil thread! :rofl2: :icon17:
