370Z or GTR.. which to buy..?

I'm thinking to buy either a 370Z or GTR. Im used to cars with lots of horsepower like the M5, RS4, Cayman S. I've been lucky enough to own them all. The M5 was with awesome power, but a pig to drive. The RS4 ( My Favorite of the three ) was all round grate, but with the four wheel drive a bit boring. the cayman S was Fun, real fun, but under powered.

So what next a 370Z or GTR. Problem is the GTR will have Zero back up support here in the Philippines, My concern is the 370Z is gonna be disappointing on power. And only got two seats. Though im sure is will be fun to slide around corners and my local track.

My concern with the GTR is going to be like the RS4 and a bit of a bore,
and a worry to maintain.

What would you buy if the budget we not the issue, and you wanted to have some thing exciting to hack around in, and put a smile on your face. ??

( I think the Z is better looking )

If you're coming from M5 or RS4, 370Z is going to be too slow. I will highly suggest you to buy a GTR. You can get a good deal on 09 GTRs on ebay or autotrader. For '10, there is a significant price increase. Good luck.

Interesting post because I was also cross shopping various vehicles, including GTR, 08 Viper, and used 997TT. And guess, what? I may be going with 370z. I am also used to driving high power vehicles - had a modified Viper. Now, I am looking for a nice fast cruiser at a reasonable price. I have yet to drive a 370z and if it performs as reviewed by mags, it should feel comparable to my old 335i coupe which is "acceptable".

I agree with your comments that maintenance on GTR could be an issue - esp if you are importing through "gray market" and that Z looks better than GTR. GTR is a great car with amazing performance but I am just not digging the looks (very subjective of course) and probably won't get me too excited. 997TT isn't much of a looker but at least it carries a nice cache.

Another car you should perhaps consider is the upcoming Audi RS5. I have my name on the list at a local dealer. They initially slated release in Jan during Detroit auto show but looks like it's being delayed.

a couple photoshopped Rs5..

How are these cars even comparable?
The GTR is far superior to the 370Z.

^^ 2 totally different cars..one's super...lol

the GT-R does look a bit weird..... Get a 370z and then modify it later on

subic bay 01-25-2009 10:28 AM

Thats also crossed my mind, but just how many horses can you get out if this baby.??
The 370Z that is. How long before their are power kits available..??

G in ny 01-25-2009 10:38 AM

wow ballers you should get both lol

smurfblu13 01-25-2009 10:51 AM

I don't know what the prices and market is like in the Phillipines, but if your not too worried about buying a used car over a new one, then my suggestion would be a 996 gt3 or a 997 gt3. Or even a Ferrari 360 for a little more cash. Again I have no idea the prices or market over there so this may not even be a question for the later mentioned. But either way you've seen the GTR numbers and what it can hang with around a track I honestly don't think you'll get too bored, and the Z will def be mod friendly up to a certain point. This would be a tough decision. Good luck

Buy a Corvette ZR1. It will blow all of the competition out of the water. Best of all, it is not too heavy weighing in at 3,352lbs.

RCZ 01-25-2009 02:40 PM

Stock for stock its no contest. However, you could get the Z and use the spare money to modify it... That would be a lot of fun if you like that kind of thing..

If you like to buy fast factory cars then get the GT-R. A Z06 would be fun too.

One thing I can tell you is that the GT-R won't be a bore like the RS4. The GT-R is very rear wheel biased so you can slide it around quite a bit too.

But a monster 370Z would be awesome too...TT with a cosworth block and a Sequential tranny. Moton suspension.......I gotta go..

isnt the GT-R a VQ also....3.8L vs. the 3.7L in the 370z

there are kits out for the G37...same engine as the 370Z...so a kit will for sure be out very soon, all the main components are made...just some adjustments I presume......

tvfreakazoid 01-25-2009 03:09 PM

I would say go buy the GTR. As for the 370z being just a 2 seater, the GTR is basically a 2 seater as well. Trust me i've seen those cars in the dealer and there is NO LEG room at all. You might be able to fit 3 people, MAYBE. But If I had the money like you, I would wait for the V-Spec to come out. More power and lighter. Heres a link http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/08/n...tun-observers/

If i only had that tough choice, i would pick the 370z and modify it into a mean machine....lol

FricFrac 01-25-2009 04:28 PM

GT-R - duh ;) When I can afford the GT-R that will be my next car. For now I'm shooting for a 370Z :)

Interesting point though.... the GTR is a 3.8L version of the VQ. In fact the rummor is that the G37 is slated to have the 3.8L (making it a G38?). Would the 3.8 fit in the 370Z? Although TT kit on a 3.7VQ would probably get you around 500 HP anyhow.... which is fairly cheap HP if you want a RWD car...

Greg 01-25-2009 04:43 PM

Test drive both and then buy whatever you want.

I mean really, on how many forums have we seen this question asked? Who cares what a bunch of strangers think? ;)

conspiracies....

there are 2 turbo kits available for the G37...i beleive so

one from GTM and the other from Forged
both vendors are on here..... and both are pretty good from what i heard

TerribleONE 01-25-2009 05:16 PM

you cant test drive a GT-R until you buy it.. ^ lol and id honestly go with the 370Z IF you are into modding..

nogoodname 01-25-2009 05:20 PM

If i had the dollas,
370z and mod the daylights out of it and make it look sleek ...no fancy body kits or anything, just all performance mods

frost 01-25-2009 06:13 PM

Is this a real decision? lol. I wouldn't think about that for a second.

Ya, and in less than 6 months watch GM close it's doors. Oops, looks like Nissan will be doing the service orders now..... :rofl2:

Really though, the GTR is an awesome car. And if you get a 370Z and it's not enough power for ya then put some turbos on it.

G&M Performance 01-25-2009 08:31 PM

^^^ Hey there, I don't see Nissan above the industry average either. LOL! But then again, at least they didn't ask for a handout, right?

All kidding aside, that ZR1 is a beast. Also, the lingering fear of GM going bankrupt is just mass paranoia. What they need to do is shove a cork in the asses of the union workers, lower wages, and call it a day.

Too bad it won't happen since this is the land of self indulgence and.....more, more, more.

SnakeBitten 01-25-2009 08:43 PM

Weird cross shopping:confused: The GTR's tranny is 10k less than a base 370z:eek: Get the GTR man especially with the cars you are coming from. 332hp is not going to satisfy you in the least.

BTW love those Audi coupes:tup:

nogoodname 01-25-2009 08:48 PM

In the end....GM is on it's way down.... slowly but surely.....oh...well

it's only me that would get a 370 and mod the daylights out of it....instead of a Gt-R....lol

and also, off topic....did you know that the Cobalt SS has a launch Control...wonder if it will be a deja vue...like the Gt-r

370z4Steve 01-26-2009 06:50 PM

get the 370 and mod it ..it would be way cheaper to maintain.
