DDMotorsports Shop 370Z Baseline Dyno - UGLY Torque Curve

Took the shop 370Z down to get a baseline dyno while it is still stock. Numbers are 285.46whp and 243.40wtq (ignore the max torque number on the chart as it is inflated due to spikes).

Anyways, I was just as shocked as you probably are to see such an ugly and scary torque curve. This car is 100% stock and I am hoping that its just a bad batch of gas. Discuss.

Yikes!!! Tune tune tune!!!!

Neo187H 01-23-2009 07:29 PM

That doesn't seem right. How is the HP curve so smooth if the Tq curve is so jagged? Considering HP is just a calculation of Tq?

Thats what boggles me too. Think its a software glitch?

Crash 01-23-2009 07:32 PM

^^^ Yes.

M.Bonanni 01-23-2009 07:37 PM

They had a 750whp Mustang on the dyno right before me and it was reading just fine. Go figure...

dad 01-23-2009 07:55 PM

Something is not right, I've never seen one like that.:icon14:

435 torque, yeaaaaa!

shumby 01-23-2009 08:50 PM

ya I say sensor glitch in your dyno. The curve looks right if you through out the spikes.

Lug 01-23-2009 08:56 PM

I also don't see how the HP could be so steady while the torque jumped all over the place like that.

On a dynojet from another thread..

Numbers are close if you leave ou the spikes on yours.

frost 01-23-2009 09:09 PM

Tooooooo ugly to be right

Namir 01-23-2009 10:26 PM

I'm gonna go ahead and say something's not right with that curve......

re dyno?

AK370Z 01-23-2009 10:39 PM

Nice numbers . But as many suggested, redyno it. Run a full tank of 93 premium and then dyno may be? BTW, your 370Z is the best looking out of all (injected and GTM). I am a biggest Silver fanboi. Silver > ALL > White > Yellow.

When can we expect a video? :excited:

Skaterbasist 01-23-2009 10:46 PM

Nothing is wrong with the car. What needs fixing is the dyno (most likely a software issue)

Slidefox 01-23-2009 11:02 PM

Through some VP16 in that bad boy!!

Ryephile 01-23-2009 11:04 PM

Agreed Skaterbasist, the dyno itself looks to been erroring. I would have expected several pulls to be overlaid to show tolerance instead of one magic pull [or in this case, poor data pull]. If we ignore the spikes in the data, the torque curve looks fantastic; ruler flat and very good numbers in regard to rated engine output.

--->DDM; do you have the rest of the pulls that you did? Also, if that's not your dyno, they owe you clean error-free pulls! Also, did you do any datalogging to observe engine operation beyond roller numbers? Ignition timing, MAF, AFR, EGT, IAT, ECT, etc.?

M.Bonanni 01-24-2009 10:09 AM

AK370Z - Thanks! I took video, but it didn't come out. Something is screwed up with the sound. I will use a different camera for the re-dyno.

Ryephile - Sorry, just did a quick baseline dyno. Nothing fancy. The only other pull we did the guy did in 4th gear instead of 5th so we scrapped it.

M.Bonanni 01-24-2009 10:32 AM

They are going to try and get me back on the dyno today.

nogoodname 01-24-2009 11:19 AM

oh...jeez..the Z's have a bad case of indigestion.....

that's just weird...lol

The G37's wasnt like that

tkindred 01-25-2009 12:09 AM

Aren't torque spikes like that about impossible?

M.Bonanni 01-25-2009 01:33 PM

Well, they never called me back yesterday to tell me to come down and re-do the dyno. I guess we will have to wait until Monday.

M.Bonanni 01-27-2009 03:40 PM

Going back to their dyno tomorrow at 2pm PST for a re-do. If the result is still the same, the only other DynoJet in town can get me in on Saturday morning.

M.Bonanni 01-28-2009 10:48 PM

Re-did the dyno today at the same shop. Much better, but a tad lower numbers...

TerribleONE 01-29-2009 03:03 AM

that looks much better... ^

M.Bonanni 01-29-2009 11:42 AM

First post updated with video. My apologies for the terrible sound and lighting. I am new to this whole video thing. :)

BerkTech 02-03-2009 02:46 AM

It's just the RPM pickup.

Here's an MR2 doing something very odd (or amazing) with a bad coil signal. Yes, that's about 1500 ft/lbs of torque. Obvioulsy an error.

These are hardware issues with not getting a clean signal, not something inside the Winpep software.

Crash 02-03-2009 03:29 AM

LOL! 1500Lbs of torque in an MR2!!! If that were true, that car would do donuts like an AWD car!

TerribleONE 02-03-2009 04:17 AM

mmm nothing like STI "axis spins" lol

Yeah but he loses points for inconsistency. Is it $1.55 a pill or $1.61? How much is the shipping?
