First Oil Change & 370Z Roadster Envy
1 Attachment(s)
Got my first oil change (I didn't do the one around 1000 miles like you all did..??) at the Nissan dealer today. Boy, $90 for an oil change. It only took about 30 minutes tho AND they fixed my passenger door that was making a weird knocking noise (some strap and bolt was loose inside they said.) At least now I'm good for another couple months before an oil change, I guess and now it doesn't sound like the door is going to fall off when a friend gets in :)
I saw one of the new Roadsters in the showroom... I used to have a little red convertible Mitsubishi GS-T Spyder Convertible about 10 years ago...this made me sorta wonder if I should have gotten another convertible..sigh...they had a PG with all the options I have Roadster there...but it would ultimately probably be wasted on me as I would never have the top down much. But it sure looked pretty on that showroom floor! |
yeah, the roadsters are beautiful cars, so much more improved from the 350 version, the a$$ end on the 350's was waaaay too long, glad nissan made the necessary design changes. I absolutely HATE those wheels though.

Those chrome rims are gross
|
Nice red color roadster but those rims need to go.
|
I agree about the wheels. Nasty!

AND, Tammy, if I remember correctly ( LOL ), you mentioned being too old for loud music or something...so you'd probably get tired of the wind whipping your hair. ;) |

And..err...uh...yes...I'm on the older side :o But I actually like my music loud..I just couldn't find the [non-existent] numbers on my Nav stereo--a classic geriatric moment for me. hehe. But the wind making my hair fly everywhere and getting stuck in my lip gloss would drive me insane. It's a girl thing. |

I was never a fan of rag tops but the more I see of the Z Roadsters the more I like them. Though I'd hardly ever be able to have the top down
|
Personally, I like chrome rims - not sure about those rims on the roadster though...

Rag top saves some weight but a hardtop vert would of looked sweet... that's if it could even fit.... Coupes over verts any day  |

I'm not a huge fan of the 370z vert, but that one does look nice.
I'd much rather have a hard top any day though. |
wonder why they always show them with the top down? hmmmmmmmmm.

What wheels/rims are you talking about? The stock 18" or the stock sport 19" ?
|
im the minority i guess, i really do like those wheels on the vert...i wouldn't like them on the coupe..but i like them on the verts.
|
I didn't pay enough attention..are they considered stock or did they put on special ones (the one in the picture?) I just assumed the ones they'd have on the roadsters with the sport package would have been like the ones they put on our coupes with the sport package. I'll have to see what they have on the other convertibles in there when I'm in next.
and I agree..they look best with the TOP DOWN...and since I would rarely have it down...it would never look as good as my coupe :) |
The 370z Convertible is awesome!
I want to go for a test drive in that one day. Top down is the sh*tttt! |

I just saw the shiny red and even though my days of driving around in red convertibles are over..(sadly..lol) it sure did stand out under all the lights.
I think wheels/rims aren't as important to me, as say, you guys,or my husband. I truly like my stock sport package wheels just the way they are! He's always doing something to my vehicles and I keep begging him to just let me leave this one just like it is for a change!! (He's always lowering something, lifting something, yadda yadda yadda..) Sheesh. |

If I could do track days with the roadster, I'd be finding a way to swap. However, most events require a full roll-cage in convertibles rather than just the popup bars. So, windows down is the best I'll get to experience.

anybody else notice the guy outside with the powersprayer.. I saw the same thing here.. guy had powersprayer and was blasting the crap off the Zs on the lot !!!!

Would I be correct in assuming the $90 for an oil change included the ester oil?

$90? jesus, would be easier and cheaper to buy a 5qt jug of RP for $40 and change it yourself!
|

*Edited to say: Hmm..now that I think about this...if you add in the $ spent at the mall while waiting, it's no longer "really" a $90 oil change, it's even worse for my poor hubby..lol... |

So, race ramps run $300. A drain pan, filter wrench, socket, jugs for hauling it to the service station and such run another, say, $30. Those are fixed costs. A new filter is $10 and the oil, as you noted, is $40. So, my material costs are $50 per oil change, netting a difference of $40 saved per change. That means I won't see any savings until I'm 8 changes in, or about 40,000 miles (assuming an average of 5000 per change). It still seems like a smart thing to do to change it yourself, but realizing I won't see savings for 2.5 years or more makes a $90 change from the dealer start to seem okay to me. |

Side note: Did I read somewhere that royal purple has ester in it too? |
