What's the best way to launch a 2010 370Z?

Hey Guys,

I recently purchased a '10 370Z and have about 1000 miles on it...I'm going to be taking it to the drag strip to see what it will do. Does anyone have suggestions on the best way to launch this car off the line?

Thanks,

3000 rpm and a quick slip of the clutch seems to work with the 6mt and sport tires. Start there and experiment. A lot will depend on track conditions.

Watch out for bad wheel hop, and know when to kill a run early when you blow the launch.

Don't forget to turn the VDC off.

you must not like your clutch.

Launch at about 1200 RPM and watch for wheel hop, No need to slip the clutch at this RPM.

I found it to be the best RPM to stop wheel hop and prevent excessive wheel spin off the line.

With a better rear tire and a whole bunch of parts, the launch RPM can be raised and you can go faster.

Of course the question you should be asking yourself is your 370Z primarily going to be a drag racer, street, track or try and be all 3?

haha I wish I could swap in a Ford 8.8" rear end sometimes.

I usually drag every other weekend, so i've had alot of practice to get good at launching and finding the right combination of clutch and rpm... Dropping the clutch at 3k will result in wheel spin, you'll burn out in the pit, I know first hand. Feathering the clutch at 3k is excessive and will smoke your clutch pretty good, I know first hand... Holding RPM's steady at 2k while letting the clutch out until you grip is the best method i've used to date, once you hook, mash throttle, wait til shift light blinks, and just bang through the gears, feel lips curling into a maniacal sneer...:eekdance:

I'd use a gigantic rubber band or slingshot setup to launch mine. Maybe a giant version of one of those pumpkin launchers...

I just rid of my VW 04 R32 to get my 370, now that thing you launch at about 5,000 RPM you can't spin 4 tires.....but i love my Z

I was going to say use the CATO off an aircraft carrier, but you're idea is good too.

kenchan 02-17-2010 01:59 PM

get a big rubber band and sling shot is the best way to launch any car.

We could always go Fat Albert and use JATO.

I've seen that actually. One of my professors shot a 60's pickup truck off the deck when he was in Vietnam. They had hidden it on the carrier and would off load and reload it at night when on leaves. They got caught with it and had 2 days to get rid of it when they were a week off from their next dock. They took lots of pictures...

Top Gear UK did it too. That's how they got rid of the last stig before they got the new white stig. They show him driving off but in the cut away you see the steam vent from the CATO.

The best way to launch a 2010 370Z is to drive it like it's a 2009 370Z when launching...

Jason 02-17-2010 04:18 PM

^ that's exactly how I would do it

MightyBobo 02-17-2010 04:41 PM

Yawn. Lets quit pussy-footing around. JATO or no-go.

Gently! This should help ensure you have many years od trouble free driving.
Why do you need to launch, are you an astronaut?:shakes head:

nuTinmuch 02-17-2010 05:31 PM

Fast, you should do it fast.

Guys how many of these launches would you say the stock lsd survive? Or is drifting what wears the lsd? I'm looking to driving and drifting courses in the car but would like to how sparingly i'd have to do it.

thanks in advance.

The stock VLSD will handle launches just fine, however it is going to suck for drifting, not enough lock up and overheats quickly. Most drifters go for a 2-way clutch LSD so that you get decel lock up as well as accel lock up.

Right no idea what you mean but I'll read up on it, that's for the heads up.
