Pricing guesstimates

What are you guys guessing for pricing right now? I'm hoping it won't be too far from current pricing even though I know they're shooting to compete with the Cayman performance wise. Nissan is still an every-man's car brand and the Z should be positioned as such.

Well our initial guess was 29500. In the Z focus group meeting (which was held on Aug 21st 2008) they announced the Z base price would be 29500. But today there were some Japanese documents circulated on the web and here you can see it yourself

Get your calculator ready and call you Japanese friends :icon17:

Basically here are some of the info from the image

Base 6MT 31,880

ST (our touring) 6MT 38,350 -41K

7AT 40,300- 42

Also notice the weight has jumped to 3260 lbs instead of speculated 3134

Kinda pricey considering that's just the base model, but it is a high caliber performance car.

kacz07 11-07-2008 09:58 AM

dude, the 2009 wrx sedan is going to start 6k cheaper with AWD and 0-60 in 4.7 seconds...the 370z better be ridiculous for that price

i read that tha 09 wrx is 5.1 and tha sti is 4.9

areyouin729 11-07-2008 07:24 PM

I will bet any amount of money the base is under $30k

it is simple business, people see $29,999 and it gets them in the door, they see $30,000 and it turns them off

it may be a $1 difference but that isnt what people see...trust me I was a business major and did many studies on stuff like this, it's mind blowing

That's pretty fast  . I personally not a big fan of 4 doors, 4 seater performance sedans but if I were to get a 4 door, I think it would be Lancer Evo. I like the look of that car.

You do have a good point. We see this in effect every single day in various stores. It was discussed in the focus group meeting that it'll be $29,500 but that recent leaked documents is showing other wise. I'm not sure how old these docs are but I would love to see a 29,500 price tag. BUT I will say this, with such a big upgrade and HP bump, it kinda make sense that the car will go up more than $1000 dollars since the base price is $28,510

Do you see where I'm going with this? If you were in charge of new Nissan Z pricing, would you give the brand new Z away for $900 more than the current model?

I don't know what the growth of incomes are at the present, but I imagine incomes to be remaining either stagnant or decreasing. With that said people will be pinching their wallets even tighter, and the Z customer probably for the most part doesn't have inelastic enough an income to accommodate a price increase of much more beyond where the Z is that present, and that's if you want to sell the car in decent numbers.

I agree

while I have a pretty good job, I have a lot of student loans which hinder me to the point where a $1000 this way or that way can make or break a deal

I really only want a base model or maybe the next model up, I had the enthusiast 350Z and that was plenty fine for me

Nissan370z 11-08-2008 03:10 PM

I hope the auto is below $35k...fingers crossed!

Good point. With our recent economic devastation and Nissan negative http://www.the370z.com/lounge-off-to...1-03-08-a.html sales, Nissan will do anything to sell this car. They ARE aware of other car prices (i.e. V6 Camaro starting at 23,xxx with 300 HP). I think the new Z SHOULD start at 31500. It's exactly 2000 more than the current model. With all the new changes, I think that's expected.

I ALWAYS like my sports car - the lightest model available. As for 350Z, the base is the lightest model (NOT Nismo). I think Enthusiast gives you the best bang for your buck.

On our new 370Z, I think the base Z + Sports Package = Best deal

I just built what would at the present be my ideal Z: Enthusiast w/ 5 spd auto and side curtain airbags, all for $32,525. That's a decent price and probably a "G" away from what my price ceiling would be.

I think for the new Z, you gotta add at least 2 - 2.5 Gs for the same options. You gotta understand though, it's a brand new model Z. Does this steer you away a little?

You know what's funny? I find myself looking at the E92 335i, a car I had hard time liking because of the somewhat subdued nature in its responses, but looking at all the flashy rides on E90Post makes me want one again... and that car costs substantially more than the Z. So to answer your question; NO.

I told myself no car is worth spending as much as the Germans command, but you are still getting a lot of car for your money. That is despite the fact if you keep the car past warranty and crap may start to fail, despite the fact they're generally pretty pretentious automobiles that are more likely to get keyed than any other car you can buy. Sorry, I'm talking to myself..excuse me.

No that's fine. You have some good points. German engineering IS good but it's expansive. Many people buy them for status icon these days. IMO they are heavy and I just do not like heavy cars. My favorite cars other than the Z would be S2000, Lotus Elise, Miata (even though I can't get past the look). They are all lighter car.

So, back on topic. What price from Nissan would you accept for a 370z with those options?
