Another Z Design Change Suggestion

Every time I close my hatch, I get my fingerprints all over the outside painted area I have to grasp to close the hatch. My wife's hatchback has an area on the INSIDE where you insert your hand to pull the hatch down to close it. That way you never get your fingerprints all over the paint when your car is clean and when the outside area is dirty, you keep your hands from getting dirty. I hope the Z design gurus might be reading this forum and that they will consider this a constructive suggestion for future models.

I just pull down on the latch thing inside the car, finger has never gotten dirty from grabbing it.

I grab the hatch lock and pull it down, voila, no fingerprints!

Good suggestion. Just tried closing by pulling on the latch and it works okay---not a nice, refined design mechanism, but it works. Thanks for the tip. Incidentally, my hatch opened on the first try three out of three times. Guess today's my day!

Like this? Ironically Chevy deleted this handle on the 2008 Corvettes cause too many people were slamming their hands in the hatch! (plus they probably saved $1 in prouction costs)...:ugh2:

+1 for the hatch lock method.

Hummm! Interesting...

+1 for the hatch lock as a handle. Been doing it since day one.

Same principle here as the insert in the inside of the hatch on my wife's Prius. Her's is way more refined but same principle and very easy and safe to use. But the latch method will work on my Z.

You mean you couldn't figure out that you could use the latch ring? :gtfo2:

Nope, nver thought about using that latch as a handle. In many other cars I've owned, those latches are lubricated and touching them will result in black grease on the hand, so I didn't consider it. I incorrectly assumed a $40,000 car wouldn't require the owner to improvise like that. Never assume. But using the latch solves the problem and I'm okay with it---no big deal, though I still say an indentation in the inside of the hatch, like in the Prius, would be a more professional resolution of the issue. I'm just thrilled that such absolute trivia is the stuff of my biggest complaints about this car. Doesn't that say it all!

In my case it's a trunk I'm closing and I use it every day. I have taught myself to reach up to the point where the third brake light is and to place my fingers on that, rather than the paint, to close it.

This keeps fingerprints off the car at all times. I'm not sure what you mean by "when the car is dirty...":icon17:
