I'm selling my car privately, what should I be looking out for since there are so many spamers out there?? What are your methods of taking money for your sale ?? Please help me out here, I'm having a buyer that is serious in buying but I still need to watch out. Thanks guys

Your local craigslist, eBay, the appropiate car forum, local newspaper or Carmax.

I have sold most of my used cars in craigslist.

Be very careful with spammers, they will send out links asking you to check the insurance for them or the compare the value of your vehicle. Most of those links will contain some type of virus.

Yeah I'm having a buyer from craiglist already and he's ready for purchase. However, what is the saftest way to take his money?? I already have the title in hand but it's my first time and I'm kinda worry of spamers, so what do u guys do? Make him wore the money to your bank? How about cetified checks? How does that work?? I'm buying a car I found on the net this weekend. Flying into Cincinnati Sat. to drive it 600 miles home. The seller and I had a good dialoge during the negotiations.. Today I sent him a scan of the certified bank check and the numbers to call to verify it. He's arranged for a Notary near the airport so it should all be troublefree. He's reassured, I'm confident in his representation. Painless process overall.

CASH or a KNOWN Bank Draft Check!!!!!

Or go with him to your bank to deposit the money/bank check. I would not do a wire transfer.

If I deposit 20,000 at a time, does it usually take a couple days for the bank to clear it since it's a big amount of money???

That would be the best process (sorta). I sold a truck a few years ago and we did just that. The bank (a branch of HIS bank) in my town confirmed and converted the funds to me, we handled all the paperwork (notary) there and he was on his way home....Your own bank may not be able to confirm a check written on another banks account. Be careful there

In my case in the post above, there are no branches of my bank where this guy lives, hence the verification ahead of time so he is reassured I'm not a phony and the money is good..

Your bank will always need time before the funds are made availabe to you (on any amount really)

Go to his bank and have them issue you a bank draft in person, that is the safest way.

on a serious note, i did sell one car partially through eBay. i posted the sale on eBay to get exposure then when i found a real buyer, we did it outside of eBay to save on fees...the whole process turned out just fine

But in what way did you take his money and know its not scammed ?

well he paid me in cash...actually his mom did...i went to their house and his mom took out a wad of cash and just gave it to me

you just have to be really careful with checks...don't take personal checks...i think cashier's checks are ok and are much much harder to forge
