370Z Paddle Shifters vs G37S Sport Coupe Paddle Shifters
Is there any difference in how well these two transmissions work? I've driven the 370Z w/ the paddle shifters and loved it, but I need a back seat. Do the G37's paddles work as well?
|
im pretty sure they would. same company. same transmission parts. in a cost perspective from nissans view it wouldnt make much sense not to use the same trannsmission, especially since they already share the same engine
|
There was a guy in a previous thread who said he had driven both, and that the Zs shifted more aggressively. Not sure I believe that, but he said it was true.
|
And is it true that you have to get an '09 G37 to get the comparable transmission?
|
To the OP's first question, I have driven both as well, and the G37 shifting is not as aggressive or fun as the 370Z (in addition to this, the G37 is nowhere near as fast as the 370Z). Interestingly, those cars and the GT-R seem to share the same actual shifter paddles. Sorry for the bad news...

Same engine... same transmission. Different exhaust, different ecu mapping.

Best of both worlds, get the 6MT G37, if you dont know how to drive a standard, buy it and practice for a week or two, its pretty easy to learn.

Well at least the gas pedal won't kill you..

Having driven both in the UK, I can say that the G37S is a bit more sluggish in the shifts than the 370z and feels a bit slower overall. Saying that if you need back seats, its a great option to get near 370z power and handling but keeping the seats

if you get a 2009 or up g37 with obviously the 7AT it shifts exactly the same as the 370z in 500 milliseconds anyone who says otherwise clearly don't know what there talking about. the 2008 5At is definitely a bit slower

My FX35 with the 7-speed and paddles is identical to the Z. I just have a little less power with the 3.5. The new models should have the reprogrammed TCU. It works a little better, but don't expect the smoothest transmission ever. It's quirky, but does it's job quite well. Even my FX tank gets moving in a hurry with the 7 gears. The only thing is, the computer shuts you out a little more than manually shifting the old 5-speed auto. The lockup torque converter locks much earlier than any of the previous models. I really like that. You can feel it lock right in. (Of course, not when it's cold.) The best on the market that isn't a sequential is still the ZF 6-speed full auto, but the Nissan 7-speed is pretty nice. It does it's job well.
