V1 Nismo Bumper Broke at High Speed

1 Attachment(s)
I’ve noticed a couple times then when accelerating over 100mph I get this weird front end shake. It goes away after I slow down, but the other day I wasn’t so lucky. I thought I blew my motor or something suspension related decided to go into retirement. After I pulled over I noticed my bumper split on the bottom support at the tabs. I have a Z1 aluminum undershoud and have my fender liners on so I’m confused as to how the air created enough turbulence to cause a blow out.

I am curious if anyone has had this issue as I cannot find anything. Any recommendations on how to reinforce the bumper for more spirited driving?

Mine did that with zspeed aluminum underpan. I do not know how Z1 makes theirs, but in general, I would say that aluminum underpan is not friendly to V1 nismo bumpers because it creates too much stress to the bumper tabs if the tolerance is not spot on. nismo bumper has foam blocks that rest on top of the crash bumper, which pushes the bumper outward and as a result, the bumper constantly tries to rip itself away from the underpan. OEM plastic underpan is really the best.

I have an intercooler in the way so the foam block won’t fit. What about a chassis mounted splitter? You think something like that would prop up the bottom of the bumper assembly?

I've cruised at/over 120mph on the autobahn and haven't experienced nor heard of any issues with the front bumpers on V1 Nismos, to include any owners of frequently tracked V1s (I have a Zspeed undershroud with the Fast Intentions bash bar btw). I can't say the same about my Carbon Signal front lip though...

I have V1 Nismo with the Zspeed under tray and the APR splitter. I have no problems.

Yeap, that is exactly what happened to mine. I hit a blown tire in the road and bottomed it out later that week going over a bridge when going fast. It shook the whole car like crazy. I would say you hit something and that started the carnage. I had to buy a new bumper and have it painted.

This happens a good bit to these bumpers. It is common.

How did you mount the splitter? I know you track your car if I remember correctly. Did you mount to the chassis or just the bumper?

You just described my exact situation tire and all

Yes I have a chassis mounted splitter which supports the bumper.

My Zspeed under tray is a solid mount to the frame. The rear of the splitter is mounted to that. I have 2 braces from the crash bar to the splitter for the front support.

Yup, when you hit something, it will crack the mounting tabs to where the factory splitter mounts to the front bumper. Once you get going fast enough it will just rip it apart and allow air to get under the hood. The hood will rise up about an inch and shake like crazy. You will think you have blown a tire. Only problem is you are going about a buck fifty when it happens. It's no fun.
