It’s that time of the year!

Woke up to a dead battery Sunday. That’s why I always keep a jump box charged.

This morning the battery in my fob went dead. Work with the fobgina, so no harm, but cold weather seems to kill all battery life.

Change those battery’s gents!

Rusty 10-11-2022 05:00 PM

I still have my oem battery, 2011.

My backup didn’t even work in the fobgina. Stone cold dead.

One quick trip to Advance and you can solve both of those. Just take a flat head jewelers screwdriver with you. Easy Peasy.

When was the last time you changed it?

And thanks for the PSA!

Last year about the same time. The original battery lasted 4 years, the Duracell I replaced it with? About a year.

Must be the inflation factor. Same price, but less longevity.

Do you keep anything on or anything that trickles power?

Dreadnaught 10-12-2022 08:33 PM

Mmmmmmmm fobgina. 2014 Z here. I have only replaced my key fob batteries once. I have also replaced my car battery once as well. For those of you that have serviceable batteries, check and correct the electrolyte fluid and only use distilled water. Having the proper level in each cell will help maintain a charge.

I’ve got a feeling that I may have drained the fob by stuffing it in my back pocket. I know I’ve fallen asleep on the couch a couple of times (I’m old, get off my lawn!) and have been woken up to the sound of the panic mode. :tiphat:

Replaced the battery and no more issues, so I’m happy that’s all it was. I’m going to replace it when I replace the batteries on the smoke detectors. $2 a year is worth the hassle.

Bruh, I get so pissed off with these. Whoever designed the smoke detectors with the battery placement going behind the damn thing is an idiot. Twisting/turning, disconnecting the short@$$ wires, and unscrewing the flap of what seems to be soldered onto the detector for the battery, then praying that the sh!t mounts back onto the wall

I got so fed up one day that I took a sledge hammer to break the things down, and replaced with a new design that allows the battery to slide in/out from the front. BEST $15 bucks/detector spent.

I was always having issues with my battery dying, turns out it was my aftermarket alarm system draining my battery so I uninstalled it. ever since then its been pretty solid.

When you jump in your car and fire it up the stupid display on your left will tell you when the FOB battery is lower than 50%. Mine does.

Ventruck 10-16-2022 07:31 PM

My OEM battery lasted like 8-9 years (2013MY, replaced 2021).

Fob I think I've replaced twice since 2016, although this is reminding me I better change the backup fob as well.

Uxi 10-18-2022 12:32 PM

My OEM battery didn't make it to 5 years.

Really? I’ve never seen it! Do I have to cycle through the settings? I never move it past “external temperature”. Nothing else in that thing that interests me.

Likewise, I've never noticed this.

I still got the original battery in my FOB. 2011.

Yeap, it will say Battery lower than 50%. If it get's real bad it won't tell you chit. It happens when you first start the car. That is when it is displayed.

arvind_korha 11-09-2022 05:55 PM

My original 09 battery lasted until 2018. I live in Calgary so it can get pretty damn cold here. I am impressed with the 9 year life of it.
