Trade??

Quick question to all my fellow 370Z owners. I have a 2009 Base 370Z 6MT. This is my third MT car. I daily drive the car except in the snow (I have a truck for that). I love the 6MT except for days when im in heavy traffic, or feeling lazy. Also no one in my family drives stick. I've been thinking about trading for a 7AT. A friend of mine has one. I have driven it and I feel that the7AT is the best of both worlds. The thing is......would trading out of my car be worth it? I will be taking a hit just to drive the same car with a different transmission. Plus i would need another large down payment to cover the difference. I think the 7AT is the better transmission but, im cool driving the 6MT at the track and daily driving (except for the situations stated above). What do you guys think? Should I just keep my car?

I daily drive mine too. There are days now and then when I agree the AT would be easier to drive. I drove a Titan before the Z and a Maxima before that so I definitley remember how my commute used to be with an AT. BTW, when driving those vehicles I would often miss the MT I had in a Civic Si. I think it's one of those 'want what you don't have' kind of things.

All that said, I can't imagine driving the Z with anything other than the manual. After almost 9k miles I'm completely familiar with it and don't have to think about it at all. The clutch isn't too stiff and even in traffic I don't get worn out.

I didn't keep the Maxima or Titan very long and I'm paying for it. If you really wanted a new car altogether the financial impact may be worth it but to swap for the same car just with a different transmission - I would only do that if I really hated the MT.

Edit: One more thought - if no one else in the family drives stick, look at that as a good thing. The Z is all yours.

Thanks. I think im gonna keep the car only because the hit isn't worth the transmission change when i really think about it. I dont hate the 6MT, I just think the 7AT is the better of the two. My finance is for four years. I'll just get something new then.

or just use your truck for the commute (which im assuming is AT) and drive your Z on the weekends.

Your going to miss driving an MT, man, trust me. I drove MTs all my life until 3 years ago when I moved to the city and assumed it would just be a hassle. Sold my 350Z and bought a Lexus IS350. Great car but boring as hell to drive and instead of driving for the pleasure of it, I drove the IS to get from point A to point B. For the past 3 years there hadn't one moment when I got into the car and didn't miss shifting gears myself.

The obvious choice is to do what the poster above me recommends. Trade in the truck, that doesn't need to be a stick!

Keep your car.

I've owned sports cars (daily driven) with both. I feel like AT's are boring in a sports car. Half the fun is being in control of shifting. If you want an AT you should buy a SUV.

A car doesn't have to be MT to enjoy..
but I agree on the trading the truck and then getting winter tires and you
can use both Zs just swap them in and out

radio5boro 01-26-2010 11:38 AM

..no brainer man.. trade the truck.. the AT just won't feel the same. you're definitely going to regret it if you trade the Z.

Keep your car. Hone your shifting skills.
